I feel a little bad about cutting farm subsidies, especially since that will affect how cheap food is, but most subsidies are going into corn, which is something that doesn't really need to be produced. Or big corporation food operations, which also, really doesn't need the money. Really guys, grow fruit or organic something or other.

Most of the cuts are in Military spending, because a lot of that crap you guys don't really need. But I made a point not to touch anything that helps the troupes after they're out. They work hard and could die for that job, they deserve their pensions.

Everything else is basically "Get rid of what Bush did to taxes and return it all to Clinton Era" and that pretty much made the whole thing balance itself.

Day 1: Something you hate about yourself

Uhh this one is hard to answer because I'm pretty sure it's sad and not what they're asking for if I say "Everything"

I'm not terribly fond of myself, I don't like how I talk, I don't like that I'm dumb, I don't like that I'm short, fat, loud, nerdy.

In fact I'd wager to say I hate every single trait I have. Even the things about myself I kind of like, I don't really because they're not GOOD enough, just some half assed ability that I've never bothered to nourish to full potential... And I hate that too.

It's one of the things that makes me take things people say to me so personally, or at least what they say when they say something mean. Because when someone says something mean it validates my hate but really you're almost wasting your breath trying to say something nice because really, I won't believe you anyway.

No, no I'm not looking for some pitying statements or fishing for a compliment, in fact if I could turn off comments for this I would... (screw you facebook aaaggghh)

It's just a statement of facts, I hate myself, I've probably always hated myself and its taken me a long time to just be okay with the fact that I do, and partially get over it and become even moderately okay with being myself.

I might not ever like anything about me, but I'm kind of stuck with myself so I should at least get used to it.

Really Stephen Harper?

REALLY?

You'll get more details with the link but basically Harper is trying to push forward a bill that makes it legal for anyone who feels like it to speak out against a group, refuse services to a group and in general treat them like second class citizens because of who they are.

Specifically this "Defense of Religion" bull er I mean Bill is targeting two groups. Homophobes and Homosexuals, the homophobes now, at any point in their day, being able to refuse homosexuals whatever they want.
Don't wanna teach today? Call a student in your class a fag and spend the whole class telling them they're going to hell.
Don't feel like defending the peace? Oh just refuse to help because that person is queer and you don't want to deal with it.
What's that Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms protecting people from hate speech? This isn't "Hate Speech" no matter what they may be saying, so long as they tag "My religion says" before they say "We should kill all the homo's" it's still okay right? Right?

While the bill may be targeting homosexuals specifically it has to be worded vaugely enough that actually it covers everything? Don't like blacks? Other religions? how someone is dressed? WELL THEY'RE OFFENDING YOUR RELIGION, and now you don't have to deal with them.

This bill isn't defending religion, religion in Canada doesn't need defending. Having freedom of religion is having the right to gather and pray to your God, Goddess or intergalactic space lord. Not the freedom to try and harm or verbally attack other people just because your religion may (or even may not) think they're yucky.
That's Discrimination

And writing a bill that gives one group a free pass to discriminate is never going to fly. Stephen Harper, you should be ashamed of this bill and your attempt to sew the seeds of hate in Canada. I hope this comes back to bite you in the ass.

The REAL dangers of teen sex

Teens having sex.
I've heard that something like 50% of all teens, male and female lose their virginity sometime between 15-19 years old.
There's really nothing we can do to stop kids from doing it. Just give them the facts and hope the worst they walk away with is a broken heart.

Right?

Well apparently in some states that's not the case, and it's a frightening warning to anyone with teenage children of their own, or is reading this and is a teen themselves.

Sex when you are under 18, could either ruin your life, or the life of your partner.

No I'm not talking about STD/STI's or even pregnancy.
Both of which could affect you for the rest of your life, but I'm talking about something you wouldn't even think of since you are entering a consensual relationship with a peer.

I'm talking about real, serious and forever damning jail time and being marked as a sex offender for the rest of your life, simply by expressing yourself sexually when you're under 18.

Being a child sex offender has some of the worst punishments facing you. It restricts what jobs you can take, where you can live, what you can do with your free time, your ability to travel, vote, even how and if you are permitted to participate in regular holiday festivities is marked by your name and charged being available for anyone to see at any point.

It's kind of scary in an almost interesting way at how fucked up this can be.

What do I mean by warning teens of this? Well…

If you are older then your boyfriend or girlfriend, by any margin, a day, a month, a year. In some states even if you're both the exact same age, you may find yourself a sex offender and charged with rape of a child.

Even writing dirty messages to your boyfriend or girlfriend you can get an obscenity charge, talking dirty? Same deal. Leaving you with life on a sex offender registry.

Don't think this can be true?

In 2004, a 15 year old Pittsburgh girl was arrested for Child Pornography and Child Abuse.
For taking photos of herself.

In 2007 a 5 year old in Maryland was charged with sexual harassment for pinching a classmate on the butt.

That same year in Denver two 5 year old's were charged for kissing each other in school.
Fortunately those charges were dropped with the district attorney calling the charge itself a crime.

In 2009, a 13 year old girl in Iowa sent three boys (13, 14 and 15) a topless image of herself. All three boys and the girl are now on the registry for Child Pornography.

Also three girls ages 14-15 sent some nude pictures of themselves to their boyfriends (16-17) via camera phone. The girls are charged with Child Pornography and Distribution. The boys with possession. All will be sex offenders for life.

Just think about the movie "Twilight" Bella herself could have been facing Child Abuse or Rape charges if she had started a relationship with Jacob. (Especially considering how often *HE* was topless in that movie, I hear later in the book he sexually assaults her. She could be the one facing life on a sexual offenders list if she consented to his advances.)

And don't even think you, as parents if you are, are safe from these charges either.

Just Telling your kids about sex, if done the "Wrong Way" can be illegal. (I mean just telling. No visuals, just descriptions that are detailed enough to embarrass you child.) In 2007 and Wisconsin Mom was taken to court for giving her children a little TMI in regards to sex.

Trying to have a responsible teen and buy them condoms or take them to the doctor for birth control? Well that could get you arrested too.

I realize we need to protect children from predators. But punishing victims, making crime where there is none, making the law so harsh that innocents are harmed for life? It's time for maybe the laws to change and get a touch more specific.

Violence against women is so normal. We don't even realize we've been violated.

One in three women in the world are abused, either physically or sexually in their life.

One in three.

Just think of your own family, Your Mother, Your Sister, Your Grandmother. One of them has been, in some way harmed. Maybe even all of them. I've been physically abused, maybe even you have too. We blame the women, (Oh she deserved it) We play it down, (Oh it was just a little smack, no big) we dismiss it as not having happened (Oh there we no bruises so it doesn't count, oh it wasn't sexual it doesn't count)

One in three. It's disgusting that this level of violence is so prevalent in life, in the world, in every shadow and walk of life that it's not even an epidemic, not something new, almost dauntingly unchangeable but it is nothing more then a fact of life.

You have a vagina? The universe is organized to punish you for that mistake. Women in areas are stripped of ever right you can imagine, treated not even as property (as something you own is usually respected because hey, it's yours) but as less then garbage, as something not even worthy to be existing in the same space as you. It is sin to be born a woman, it is wrong to have woman parts, we are naturally evil and wrong and inherently bad and unequal even though we make up 50% of the population somehow we're the minority and unwanted, unneeded, unacceptable.

I'm one of these women.

And I'm really fucking sick of it.

It's not even men that are doing this. Violence against women by women is even greater, stronger and more vicious than that of men. Mother in laws punishing their daughter in laws. Mothers teaching their girl-children their place in the world, women slut-shaming and propagating myths about themselves and putting restrictions on their own sexuality and self expression.

We are our own worst enemy most of the time.

We are not a minority, we are a people. We are One. We are Beautiful, We are Perfect.

I have a Vagina and fucked if I'm going to be ashamed or made ashamed of it. It doesn't need to be trimmed, teased, tucked, plucked, shaved, scented, primped or bejewelled.

Not going to link it but I'm sure you've all heard about the dumb fucks who think the best way to honor the memory of those who were killed by terrorists on 9/11 is to make it so American Soldiers will NEVER return home alive.
By insulting every Muslim on the face of the planet and proving that America REALLY IS someplace that doesn't really deserve to exist.

I'm not going to get into how dumb this is, or point out how Muslims also died at the trade center trying to SAVE people in it, so this isn't honoring the victims but pissing on their ashes.

I'm kinda tired of the daily show mostly spending it's time harping on Glen Beck.

A part of me wonders if maybe there isn't any other good news out there that's worthy of being made fun of, but then I think of the guys growing pot in Canada that TRAINED BEARS to patrol the area to protect it (okay maybe that's more of a Colbert Report thing), Prop 19 is being vote on (legalizing cannabis), Blockbuster is going bankrupt.
I mean come on, just take a quick scroll of Fark every morning and you've got hours worth of entertaining, off the cuff news that's kinda funny already.

I guess my problem with it is that Glen Beck is such a freaking easy target. Pretty much everything that comes out of that guys mouth is 100% insanity. He's a hypocritical hate monger-er and that's already been pointed out multiple times. He's not going to change so why keep giving him the attention. The more Steward talks about him the more people watch the more money he gets the crazier he gets so that Steward will talk about him... It's a cycle of psychosis and cash and I'd really like it to stop. Plus it's getting boring and repetitive.

You know, there is one big reason why I'd hate to be famous. Really Truly famous peoples kids and even grandkids are always held up to the expectations of what their great ancestors did. Hell Statistically the best way to impregnate as many people as possible is to keep people poor, uneducated and deny them access to basic birth control and then give the men a false sense of entitlement so they go out and have sex with as many women as possible and give women a sense of worthlessness so that they let that shit happen.

I mean if you want to talk statistics, Statistically it's best to keep the blacks poor and the women unmarried since they tend to have more children that way.

My friends on the internet, I do love schadenfreude. And as far as countries go, if you cannot tell by my blog (or the other blogs, or the news, or you really have your head stuck under a rock) America is a country filled with some of the most delicious pratfalls ever seen by man it's a surprise everyone there isn't doing it on purpose just to amuse the international community.

America is, now and possibly forever, the MOST hypocritical country on the face of the Earth. Certainly the Vatican, which is it's own country and all those Theocracies who claim moral authority and then do, by their own religious standards, the most immoral of acts gives it a run for it's money. But no, in the end America wins hands down in the "Hypocrisy and Irony" awards.

Traditional Americans are always speaking of being the "Land of the Free" hell it's in the national anthem and part of that declaration of independence that everyone is on about, I'm willing to bet it's in the constitution a couple of times. And yet America is ONE OF the most unfree countries on the earth.
The Land of the free…Unless you're:
Homosexual.
Transgender.
An Immigrant.
An Illegal Immigrant.
LOOK like an illegal immigrant.
Are not Christian.
Suspected of anything. (Thanks Patriot act!)
Mentally Disabled.
A "Minority" (i.e Black or Mexican looking)
Are a "Criminal".
Were a "Criminal".
Was suspected of being a Criminal and your name given to the papers, even if you were found not guilty.
Want to alter your mental state with various substances not doled out by the government.
Want to have consensual sex for an exchange of money.
Want to buy legal mind altering substances on a Sunday or in various counties depending on where in America you are.
Are Poor and/or Homeless.

I understand the faithful.

I mean, I understand irrational beliefs. I have a phobia of spiders (and a little less so of needles, I can rationalize that one away with effort long enough to get a shot if I need it, not enough to donate blood)

Doesn't matter how irrational it is, doesn't matter how much I try to think it through and explain it away and not make it bother me. Doesn't matter how much I know or how safe some may be. I see a spider and there will be a freak out. I can't stop that instinctive flight or fight response, the chattering of teeth the crawling of skin I just can't. Hell even reading Charlotte's web creeps me out.

I understand faith must be something like that. Doesn't matter if it works or not some part of you believes, or hopes to believes, or just enjoys it so yea, it makes you're mad when someone dismisses your belief (or my fear) as you being irrational or a baby or stupid.

But the faithful of any religion or creed, especially those who may also belong to a minority group have to understand the "secular" point of view. We are fighting a lot of your privilege and just by fighting that, you already find us borderline obnoxious.

If you talk about your faith, someone may disagree with you for having the wrong faith, but rarely will you find arguments against having faith at all. Open any newspaper and you'll find entire sections dedicated to your or another varying belief. Walk into almost any store and you'll find at least one book or magazine or item dedicated to faith of some kind or another. Look at a map and you'll find places dedicated to you marked out, talk to enough people and you'll either find a quick throw together group of others of your faith or yell from a street corner long enough and you'll eventually gather a group willing to learn of your faith.
Even at home we are not safe from the various faithful as some religions will hunt us down in an attempt to convert and if we tell them to leave because of our lack of faith we are pretty much always the bad guy regardless of how polite we tell them to leave.

Heaven forbid we try to voice our own beliefs (or lack thereof) in the same manner that various faith try to profess their own, try to make jokes at the expense of the faithful, try to develop our own communities and like minded groups and expect NOT to be harassed.

Certainly since what we are is a very subtle difference and can be easily hidden behind a "Don't ask Don't tell" life policy that unlike the real DADT doesn't harm us psychologically or emotionally by having to hide it.
So it's no where near the hardships that other minorities face. But the Faithful of whatever type be it a major religion to a passing belief in ghosts to power crystals have privilege that the secular, at least in that part of their life, just don't have.

Our existence is already something the faithful don't like and every obnoxious protest by the religious, every street preacher, every knock on my door while I'm in the bathroom, every insensitive accusation that my existence somehow caused worldwide disaster, every disease spread or person harmed directly or indirectly by the irrational beliefs of the "faithful" is a gauntlet thrown.
And while I feel bad for the spiritual or rational believers of various faiths who are caught in the crossfire and I can understand the feelings of the religious who want the militant atheists to leave them alone, I'm sure people who think a lot like those nice faithful who want us to back down and be gentler are using the same thinking pattern that those who want homosexuals/transgendered/women/minorities/anyone else they don't agree with to just back down are using.

If you read this blog, you know I hate hypocrisy. Not to say that I'm not a hypocrite myself sometimes, I'm sure I am. But as a whole I just really don't like it.

That's the reason why I think, I'm finally finished with Gaia online.

I won't bring up the argument that has come to this. I said I would drop it, hell it's a good thing I said I would drop it before getting a warning to drop it else I'd be banned, so drop it I have.

But I just know one friend from Gaia reads this blog once in a while, so if they gander over this because they haven't seen me online in a few days or months then hopefully this is an open letter as to why.

No I don't want to talk about it, no I don't want you to comment on it just know that there was (not you but from others) the biggest slew of hypocritical horse shit being flung (and this is not the first time it's been thrown there nor am I the first person driven away by it so "ace" on you all) and I think I'm done.

That's my opinion, and I might be an asshole for not sugar coating it but you know what, I'm not the one threatening to ban others for it so clearly my asshole ain't the biggest one here.

When someone listens to a preacher, one has to honestly wonder if they think about what they're saying before they say it.

After all, there is that saying "Preaching to the Choir" where you speak only to those who already whole-heartedly believe and do not bother to question what you say. And anyone who spends any amount of time on the internet knows that "Choir Preaching" only ever results in buttpats and usually poor if not outright false information being given due to the total lack of any constructive (or any at all) criticism.
This becomes quickly an issue of arrogance for anyone who is left without criticisms of their words or deeds. Religious and Skeptical alike.

The reason for this is I was listening to an old speech made by Walter Martin (Dr? I question it…) who was… well ironically, complaining that all establishments of higher education were brain washing schools of Atheism.

But then, goes on to claim Atheists don't create anything. That they don't make schools (only I guess take them over and teach in them?) that they don't make hospitals (I guess they just work in them with that higher education that the "religious" apparently don't need?) that they do no charitable works.

I was listening to the part of it "What Schools have Atheists built?" and before he could even continue with his train of thought (leading into a resounding "None!") I answered with "nearly all of them?" because the Government is a secular organization and you know, more countries exist then America.

I suddenly realized, I think he doesn't know what secular means.

Anything the Government does is a secular accomplishment, unless you're living in a theocracy if the Government builds something, it's secular. So all public schools are indeed secular.
All public hospitals are secular.
All public charities are secular.
In fact, the first two hospitals established in the USA at all (and well 200 years AFTER the USA was first discovered) were secular to boot, because I guess the "Founding religious fathers" couldn't be arsed to take care of the sick and ailing?
Even today with various religions being what they are only 13% of all hospitals are "Religious run" (Which just means state run, but with fewer services since church money only makes up .0015% of the money for the hospital comes from the religion on average.)
And that's not just Christians, that's ALL religious hospitals. Mormons, Jews, Muslims, Hindu's what have you.

What hospitals have Atheists built? Try 87% of all hospitals.

It gets even better. For Profit hospitals (Privet owned business hospitals, which considering they're for profit, it doesn't matter what religion the owner is, he's getting into the hospital game for gain not God making it the very antithesis of religion) on average write off .8% to charity care. Religious hospitals do a bit better with 1.9%.

Godless secular hospitals? About 5.1% they give to charity.

What have the Secular done?
LOTS my friend, LOTS.

A better question to answer is to seriously look into the question of "What have the faithful done?"
Wars? Religious killings? segregation? because based on the numbers, it certainly hasn't been charity and kindness for as much as they'd like it to look that way.

(Certainly by no means am I saying if you're "religious" your a jackass and if you're Secular you're good. I'm saying we're ALL jackasses only the Religious are hypocritical jackasses because they claim a higher authority.)

Victim Blaming.

I'm getting seriously sick of victim blaming. I do it, you do it, everyone does it at least once or twice in their life. Anytime the words "They deserved it" comes out of your mouth, somehow, somewhere, you have just blamed a victim of something.

I understand why people do this. On some levels it's a release of responsibility.
"It's not my fault I hit them, they were talking back to me"
"It's not my fault for not being a better parent, it's society/their teachers/TV/Friends"
"They deserved that punishment, so it's not my fault, they did something bad!"

We don't want to be responsible for our reactions to someone else's action. Sometimes it can be something little that really does seem to be the "victims" fault. Spanking a child for doing something bad, punishing a student for failing to perform properly in class. The parent and teacher are still the ones responsible for the punishment, but we have to realize that they are responsible for that punishment, and stop blaming it as a natural reaction to what the other person did.

But then it can be larger, like punching someone when they insult you, like raping a woman because she was dress provocatively. Much bigger scale, but same thing. You can never say "They should have known better" or "It's just punishment for their actions"
No.
No that is all the responsibility of the one who did the act. You are COMPLETELY RESPONSIBLE for EVERY ACTION or even REACTION you commit. Every. Single. One.

But I understand.

The second reason I figure in victim blaming is the belief that we somehow have control over other people and the world around us. See if it's the victims fault they got raped or killed, then clearly they did something bad for it to have happened. As long as we avoid that action, we can avoid having that reaction happen to us.

This theory is only functional when dealing with an inanimate object. Something that does not have it's own thoughts or functions and only does what it was designed to do. I bitched about Twilight to my friends lamenting like others of a generation gone a foul due to piss poor book choices based on things that I heard of the book. People either tend to be absolutely giddy about the damn thing or they absofucking loath it.

Well since I'm not one to let others fully do my thinking for me, I finally sat down and plugged through the whole damn thing.

Now I'm not about to write some kind of change of heart here and become a twilight fangirl, it was still pretty bad. Just not THAT bad.

I'm sure if you're aware of Twilight at all you know the general plot summery (it's hard to get away with not knowing these days.)

It's starts out okay, not terribly vapid of Bella to do what's right by her mother and go stay with her Dad, after all she's what? 16? 17 now? (I can't remember if the book actually said her age or not, I just know she turns 18 in the next book) Edward is a bit of a schmuck at first and there is a very good reason why Bella didn't have friends back in Phoenix
She's kind of a bitch.
But it explains why people like her in Forks (for some reason bitches are popular in small towns, pack mentality or something.)

The whole "You smell delicious AND you're the only person in the whole wide world I can't hear CLEARLY I LOVE YOU" is over the top Mary Sue'ish but you know what? A lot of books are like that (Harry Potter is quite the same. "What? You parents are dead? AND your foster family hates you? AND you're the CHOSEN ONE who can DO NO WRONG! By jove!" at least J.K can write a bit better to hide all the Gary Stu'isms) so I can ignore it.

Other then that for the most part Bella is still kind of a self centred bitch, and Edward is kinda cute being a bumbling kind of guy. (He reminds me of a nerd who is kind of strong so joins the football team or something. At any moment someone's going to dunk his head in the toilet so he try to act all aloof and standoffish to seem deep and cool but really he's just thinking about star trek)

Regular teenage fluff ensues. Normal vapid stupidity ensues. Cliché evil vampire is cliché but other then that it's just kind of a "meh" book. Not something I'd burn like the devil, not something I'd go out of my way to read. Maybe if I was really BORED and had nothing else I'd read it. But it's not that bad.

My only biggest nit-pick is the type of Gary Stu vampires Myers made.

There is a reason why vampires have weaknesses. It's because if they didn't there would be nothing stopping them from breeding humans like cattle and ruling the world as humans do currently.
However Myers effectively removed every possible weakness from these creatures. Other then the blood drinking, which really is no more a weakness then needing a blood transfusion or enjoying your meat a lot, there is nothing about them that humanity wouldn't leap at the chance to get. And that wouldn't stop humanity from getting.

Vampireism is spread through venom? That means that there would be loads more accidental vamps then one would normally think. Any tooth scratch kiss would automatically result in a new vamp. Any escaped victim, half dead leftovers would become a baby vampire in the world. There would be loads of vamps and the "kiss" or "covens" of them would be enormous especially since it's still hard for even vampires to kill vampires let alone anything else be a predator to them (since the werwolves are generally contained to just one tribe in one area of the world and even then it takes a pack of them to take one vampire)

Plus, what kind of light does it take to get these guys to glitter? Regular street light is pretty bright, depending on their shine they would sparkle like club kids at a midnight rave everywhere. Not to mention, it's called foundation and powder? They knew how to put a thin film of makeup on in the 1800 I'm sure vampires would figure out how to put on some makeup by the 2000's so that direct sun never hit their skin.

But that's just a nit pick.

Other then that, it's better then the Anita Blake series.

One of the things that has boggled me about America is the taxes (and the politics behind them).

Americans may think they pay less then other countries in taxes but that simply is not true as many places in America still have GST on top of their regular 14.8% spent on taxes, which doesn't cover payments into pensions or heath care (because unlike in other countries, that stuff isn't covered in taxes.)
Canada's income tax is exactly the same number (14.8% on average) however unlike Americans we save on that 12.1% paid out into heath care and retirement pensions. (Since RRSP's in Canada up to about $5,500 is non-taxable and depending on your plan can be taken back tax free at any time as well.)

Now I've voiced my issues on American taxes and the mind boggling of it all, but hearing about the proposal to add a "Soda Tax" in America boggles me further, and I'm glad it got shot down.

Some proprietors of the tax may stand up and say "But what of the children, the obesity! We have to do something!!"
Well, charging people a sugar tax isn't going to stop them from being fat considering how much cheaper fat sugary foods are in comparison to healthy nutritious foods. But more-so in America than any other nation will adding a tax to sugar do little else than allow fat senators to become fatter.

In someplace like Canada, where taxes go to health care, an extra sugar charge goes back into paying for those peoples medical expenses. It makes sense to have an extra tax for us. (It's one of the reasons cigarettes are so expensive in Canada.)

But in America all the idea of taxing "fat" is to punish people for choices, maybe even choices they don't make or choices they really have no choice on (after all, inner city kids may have no access to a large grocery store let alone a farmers market so when their main food source comes from restaurants or convenience stores or school lunches charging them extra for food is like charging them extra for being poor, and this money has to come from somewhere so if we make their food budget higher it just means they can't afford other things like healthcare completely mooting the point of the tax in the first place)((The point of the tax I assume is to make people more healthy))

Oh America, why must you be so silly? You're the world economic leaders and yet you don't seem to be vaugely aware of the first thing regarding economics.

The argument for Santa.

Skeptics around the world make the same argument against Santa every Christmas.

Yes, Santa Clause. The fat guy.

Their counter argument to a child's fancy (and thus against all faith based beliefs in general) is that based on certain simple math and physical abilities of any being on the planet that it is impossible for Santa to make it to every house on the planet.

Now I am skeptic, of those skeptics in their research. (After all, while on a general level they are right, most Atheists aren't exactly renown for fully researching every religion fully before dismissing it as fanciful bunk.)

In any case, here would be the better assessment of Santa's fabled abilities to those skeptical of him (and as such any "unfounded faith")

First, Skeptics have to realize that "Santa Clause" is simply one incarnation of many "Old men who give children gifts."
One could then assume that every countries different incarnation of old St. Nick could possibly be an entirely different person. So Santa Clause himself as we know him would then only be responsible for North America and not every other country on the planet.
So only Canada (population 33,311,400) the USA (301,006,550) and maybe Mexico (106,350,434) would be his targets.

Assuming the average north american lives to 78 and 1% of the population makes up each age bracket (1% = 1 yr. old 1%=2 yr. old etc…) and that Santa only visits those who truly believe (So about 2 to 8) then he's only visiting 33,897,570 children.

However.

All children who are not Christian in North America would not receive presents. (about 23.2% including mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses who do not celebrate the "Santa" belief) Leaving about 26,033,334 households

"Well" you may say "There you have it, it would be impossible for a single man to hit that many households in a single night! He'd only have 15 or so hours (given time zones) to hit all those households, that's still 1,700,000 households per hour!"

Well… That is correct.

But you also forget to calculate in the MOST important stipulation of the great (North American) Santa belief.

Santa only hits the houses of children who have been good ALL YEAR.

Something as small as pouting or crying can put you on the "Bad" list let alone a full out and out tantrum. How many kids between 2 and 8 have gone an entire year without doing something bad? (Hell can you even think of any adults?)

And there the Skepticism against Santa kind of dissolves.
If Santa did exist and did do exactly what he claimed to do, he'd only ever HAVE 1 maybe 2 children on his "Good" list at all every year.

One or two houses of the worlds Best Behaved children in a single night?

Totally possible that a single fat man in a magical flying sleigh could hit those houses in a single night (Chances are if there's 2 of them, they're related) main reason we don't hear about them is that it's not polite to brag so telling everyone that you're the only house Santa ever goes to would be the fastest way to get your butt back on that naughty list. Plus in all reality, chances are these are mute paraplegic kids if they've never pouted, cried or aggravated their parents in any way so as to classify them as completely "Not naughty"

So it's not so much that a good skeptical outlook disproves Santa's existence, but that it proves he'd never visit anyone anyway and as such probably lives in permanent vacation in hawaii which is why no researcher has ever seen his shop in the north pole.
Chances are, it hasn't been operational since the stories started.

Skepticism doesn't have to disprove the existence of something that cannot be "disproven" (absence of evidence is not evidence of absence) but it sure can point out that based on logic, peoples beliefs don't quite fulfill themselves the way they think they do.

I'm a pretty cynical person, I always feel bad that I don't donate to more charities but I know that some charities are a little sketchy and some charities are just annoying and some charities are secretly not charities at all.
I just found out one of the Charities I've donated to as a collage student, is one of the latter.

Locks for Love is hitting some well deserved criticism since along with the roughly $200,000 they receive annually in cash donations they also get $300,000 by re-selling the hair that is donated. The Better Business Bureu is investigating shutting them down as a charity since they've been trying to keep that $300,000 off the books.
Considering they on average only give out 300 wigs every year either these are $1,700 wigs OR someone is taking a hefty skim off the top since their wig materials are free, most of the people who work for them are volunteer. And considering I can buy wigs for $30-$50 made of real hair online… I'm thinking the latter.

Oh and unlike what they let you think, their charity isn't designed for children, or cancer patients. It's designed for people with alopecia, which is chronic hair loss due to genetics or mistreatment of the hair.
Still pretty bad and embarrassing, but they're not being very honest about it when everyone thinks it's for cancer patients, and it was never designed for that.

Sex trafficking is a serious thing that happens every day. It happens to children, to boys, to girls, to adult women and men. Slavery is not over and is never acceptable within any society, more-so not in our (allegedly) modern one.

So what can be done in the face of it? Germany is facing some serious allegations with reported human trafficking increasing by 70%. Some people look at their legalized prostitution stance and wonder if the two are not connected. Although they are giving (whispered) lip service to the idea that it may be BECAUSE prostitution is legal that Illegal prostitution (human trafficking) is easier to catch. (So it's not that there is 70% MORE trafficking, but that now it's not hidden under prostitution charges and can be reported and stopped easier)

The issue with this "is it Correlation or Causation" question is that the answer to it isn't easy to find. With the majority of the rest of the world still seeing sex work as being wrong for various reasons it's hard to get solid numbers on slavery within sex workers. Is Germany's 70% increase due to more slaves being sold in Germany or just more rings being broken up now that they can separate the wheat from the chaff? Without studies done around the world on the issue we might never truly know which. But one thing is for certain...

Making prostitution illegal has not stopped human trafficking and has not stopped prostitution from happening. All it has done is thrown innocent people in jail and damned them to a life of repeating the same crimes.

Sometimes, I really hate being a woman.

Not for the obvious reasons (being stabbed in the gut once a month and having raging hormones that wash over me and make my stupid emotions go flinging out of control in a classic "oh she's just PMS'ing" kind of way)

But for the subtle cultural reasons. Women in general are pulled in so many different directions by so many different aspects of society, we're told by "SlutShaming" that we need to stay good and pure but we're told by mass media that we're in control of our own adventurous sexy lives although the ultimate goal of that one is still to get married (and either have lots of babies, or shoes.)
Girls that don't fall into these cookie cutter categories (hot slut or go get em virgin) are seen as somewhat flawed or different or just plain "Lesbians" and thus they don't count for much of anything... Except maybe the hot slut.

Feminism as I've mentioned before in theory is supposed to be about breaking down those stereotypes and showing people as being people, that having a vagina is no different from having a penis and "we women" are not from Venus with men from Mars, we're all just Earthlings.

Feminists on the other hand keep proving themselves to be Raging Douchnozzles by propagating the VERY STEREOTYPES they claim not to be, and by forcing the supposed "Evil Patriarchy" BACK ON WOMEN.

But it's not just me noticing this "spit in the face hypocrisy" (which I believe would be call for a little lol ironies but it just hurts to bad)

Blag Hag Also noticed it when she was pursuing some feminist blogs claiming that women are magical beings who don't need facts or figures or studies to know what's true and right in the world, we just know by instinct. Father Pat Connor a 51 year old priest who specializes in marriage counseling wrote a book for young women about marriage. While many would point out he's never been married having to deal with women planning on ending their marriage vows or entering them for the first time has given him some insight into the issue. While aimed at women and the men they should never marry, I notice the comments on the Macleans article are mostly men complaining that forewarning women of partner choices is somehow Misgynist. Now while it is a little bit on the sexist side because all the rules are for women marrying men (but hey it's the target audience) however all the rules are pretty generic and common sensical that they apply both ways.
So just to make it totally fair, here is the list of qualifiers for women you probably shouldn't marry.

1) Money is important in marriage, so don't marry a woman who has never had a job and cannot hold down a job and has no ability to understand finances.
-That will never turn out well in the end.

2) Never marry a woman who is more affectionate in public then in privet, or one that points out your faults but none of her own. Never marry a woman who has been sued for child support or one that your own children don't like (and can give reasons for it, there is a chance they just want you to get back with Mom but if that's not it and they say "She's a bitch after your money" maybe listen to the tykes)

3) Don't marry a woman you're not physically attracted to or cannot please. Sex is a big part of life and if you're settling or you think you can make them change or your forcing the attraction in the relationship you might never be happy there and if you're hoping for a monogamous relationship that will just end badly if you have no attraction to her.

4) Don't marry a woman who gets jealous easily or needs to show off.

5) If you have NOTHING in common maybe re-think it a little, small talk about your day can only go so far especially if common values or life goals are not also shared.

See, how hard is it to take all his advice and switch the men with women?

With a questionable but reported 80% of the country supporting the repeal of "Don't ask, Don't tell" and the obvious national security issue it causes (high level officers within the military being "outed" and removed from their posts with god knows how much sensitive information available to them as well as 10% of the USA population out and out banned from ever serving their country) you'd think that anyone who was pro-military in any way would bite the bullet on their homophobia on this one.
(After all, if homosexuals CAN serve then if a draft hits they MUST serve and this may sound cruel but from the viewpoint of someone who hates gays ((not me, McCain)) wouldn't it be smart to force them to serve before the Heterosexuals? Argument Against Vegetarians.

I don't actually have a problem with Vegetarians. I think it's great that someone likes vegetables enough that they can eat them all the time. I think their choice to have a healthy lifestyle is good for them and helps the environment and makes their food bill cheaper especially if they have little household plants going on.

I say "Good for you my herbivore friends!"

But I also have an issue with some vegetarians in the same way that I have an issue with anyone with an agenda based holier then thou moral attitude over something they do that others don't. And sadly, too many armchair vegen warriors out there on the internet have the worst of that attitude to the point of daring to defile science in order to make their point.

Reading this study I got mad. Madder then when I read this bullshit abomination of statistical science

IQ tests are very low indicators of overall success rate in life. I realize anecdotal evidence means nothing but I know a guy who's a member of MENSA and who is two years older then me.

He never graduated from University.
He works at a restaurant now.

My Father never graduated from High School until he was well into his 30's, now he works for the government doing some water thing.
My Mother never graduated from High School until she was in her late 30's, she teaches special needs students.

My Sister got straight A's all through school and graduated with honours and scholarships and graduated University top of her class is now working as a waitress.

*I* on the other hand. Failed grade 12 Math and thus barely graduated High School, was a "B" average student, scraped out of University with a 65% average getting an ART degree. And I've traveled the world, teach English at a Jr/Sr. High school and am considering buying a house next year.

IQ does not equate to hard work, IQ does not equate to life success, IQ is not a result of eating right or having a meat-less diet or owning a penis.

The fact that there is a marginal increase of Vegetarianism in people with high IQ's is most likely that these people tested come from upper middle class societies where they can afford to be vegetarians. (Which is something that the test did indicate, that all these people were rich) Where their status at university and their social image allows them the PRIVILEGE to be Vegetarians. (Social image being another factor in it as the majority were also women)

I'm willing to bet that more of those people who are vegetarians with high IQ's are also heterosexual white women, but they're not going to report that heterosexuality, whiteness or having a vagina is what gives you that higher intellect are they?

Plus the writer of this article, or at the least the conclusions pulled from the original article that were drawn from the research are still wrong as more omnivores then vegetarians exist and as such as a whole still out perform them as far as "life success and university graduation" go. Saying that because 18% of university graduates are vegetarians means that being vegetarian makes you smart is like saying that because 10% of Atheists are violent being Atheist makes you an asshole.

I also find the pointing out of "Genius Vegetarians" as being disingenuous as Albert Einstein only ALLEGEDLY went vegetarian during the last year of his life and that's based on a letter he sent and no actual evidence of his diet. So during his years of developing that high IQ, he was an omnivore like the rest of us.

So I just watched the Truman show.

Yanno it's not that bad, it's kind of semi-religious in the "We don't need God" kind of way. Makes me think a bit of Adam and Eve and the story of creation and if them leaving the garden of Eden was less of a "being thrown out" and more of a "fuck you God we're doing our own thing"

Makes a lot more sense the other way around and of course generations down the line when God is telling the new followers the creation story he's not going to say "And then you humans realized that you didn't actually need me and you buggered off" He'd make something up like "I threw the bastards out and have been punishing you ever since"

We all speak about love in many ways. But in the most idealistic stories of Love we never give the form of our lovers a gender.
When you think of the person you want to spend the rest of your life with do you start that list with their genitalia?

No, we always speak of those we love as being funny, kind, caring and that they above all, love us back. Some of our repeated love stories are always about loving someone despite some flaw they have. Loving someone for what's inside and not outside.
We tell our children this every day, to not judge a book by it's cover.

And yet every day countless people hypocritically judge peoples love, their 10, 20 and sometimes 50 year long committed relationships as evil, wrong, perverted and unnatural simply because the two outside packages don't match.

These hypocrites, who would titter shamefully at someone saying the same of an inter-racial couple. Of a skinny to fat couple, of a old to young, beautiful to ugly couple and say "But it is love!" are willing to hurt, jail, rape and even kill anyone who's physical package does not meet their standard when they fall in love.

You know it hasn't even been a month since my assessment of the Catholic Churches Priorities That I have to go back and re-write that list.
Apparently abortion, even if it's done to save your own life because you and the child would guarantee-ably die if the procedure is not just a little bit worse, BUT WAY WORSE then raping deaf children.

Researchers have found that unlike men who live longer when they marry a younger woman, women who marry younger men drastically live shorter on average.

Researchers are baffled as to why this could be, but I have my own hypothesis.

You see, the maturity found in men and women is different. Men, at any age, are basically looking for a caretaker. Once they have found that caretaker they stop going out and being active, and it becomes the caretakers job to do that for them. (Make them be active)

When an older man marries a younger woman, because she's younger she has more energy to expend in that caretaker role, as well as more desires of her own to go out and do things. Thus allowing the "Man in her care" to live a more active, healthy lifestyle.

When an older woman marries a younger man she begins to stress more. Partially because she feels the effects of age more acutely in this relationship, partially because she is still responsible for the level of activeness in their lives and if she is aging and cannot sustain her own "Get up and go" then he's not going to be there to help or force her to do it.

Of course then when a woman marries an older man she is stuck in that elderly caretaker role, and has to expend more energy and time to take care of her husband.

If the man is the same age then presumably they have the same groups of friends, the same experiences and more of the same interests. The woman doesn't have to expend so much energy to force her partner to get up and go places with her, her interests and needs are naturally more reflective of his so they can live a bit more balanced with less of the added "Mothering" or "Nursing care" stress on the woman.

This is all just pulled out of my ass but it makes a kind of sense considering the long tradition of nagging wives and childish antics of husbands. So if a woman really wants to live a long life she can either
a) not marry or
b) find another woman to marry.

Hmmm wouldn't that be a scary thought if statistically lesbians lived twice as long as heterosexual women. I wonder if someones done a study on that.

Social Innovation.

I'm not even sure what that word means all the time. I guess it means doing what you can to change the world. But when I think of it, the word, what it represents, what you have to do.

I lose hope.

This is the opposite of what a person should feel I imagine, when they think of "Social Innovation"

It seems so big, so daunting, so unobtainable. A world wide scale project that unless you get every last person on board it will fail. It's like a never ending PUG (pick up group for those unfamiliar with the gamer term) where all it takes is one person to screw up the entire thing.

And yet, it's something simple like this that can change it all.

Amy Smith's concepts of innovating within the developed world kind of make me pause. Not only as a person but as a teacher.
Finally... Finally I can kind of see things that *I* can do as a person that may, you know, may change some one a little. May make things, possibly, just a touch better.

Innovate students to try something different. Living on 2$ a day. Even I have experience with that. People that read my blog Ramen Bowl know that for a time I was restricted to 200 yen a day for a time, and from that I've done the smallest innovation of giving a "Poor Gaijin's Guide" to living for about 4000yen a month (1000yen a week or about 145yen/day) Something even small like that, might even for a moment make kids aware of how much they have.

Might not make them drop everything to help people in other countries. But certainly might make them re-think about how terrible their lack of allowance is for a moment before they really complain.

I also like the concept of embracing market mechanisms. One of the biggest issues I have with most "Social Innovators" are is that they're full of big lofty ideals about living in these freegen social utopias where robots provide them with everything and they don't just waste away into self chosen extinction. People want what they have to work for. A friend (RD_The) told me once a long time ago when I was complaining about my job that was punishing me for "Less then optimum work results" that punishment is a poor method of getting people to work. People will dedicate more to work if there is a sense of reward in it. And free market gives people that sense of reward. That sense that "I work, therefore I get something cool" well something cool could very well be something simple like a bike, like a solar panel, like a tree planted in their yard. If you give it away it has no worth, but even the most useless of trinket, if earned, is something precious which is why market economies work and have stuck with us for... well since the first person convinced someone to trade him something he had for something they had.
Something like making something innovative, and then marketing it as an item for sale.

Well this is how I already see the world crisis's as being solved. It has to be SOLD to people, like recycling was, like government is, like.. well... everything we have.

Social Innovation.

Maybe it is just as simple as making a small change.
Maybe it is just as catchy as selling it faster, better, cheaper and cooler then the other junk that doesn't help anyone.

Maybe all it really is, is being open to change and going forward with those changes as they're needed wherever you are.

Still a little pessimistic since change is always the last thing anyone wants to do.

I hear stories and I see TV shows about these people, but honestly I thought they were a myth, or if they did exist they didn't actually leave their houses let alone the country.

I met one of those Americans that vote Republican because they actually truly believe what that party says.

He said he didn't think that the heath care policy in America should pass because people should work hard, get insurance and take care of themselves.

FORTUNATELY I think I changed his mind on it. I was able to ask him what he thought the Government was for, he said for war but then I asked him how does that benefit him. I got him down that really if the Government does not serve the whole of the people then what's the point of it? You might as well buy a gun, refuse to pay your taxes and just shoot anyone that try to steal your money from your mattress because if it's every man for himself why bother to pay into the system that effectively is stealing your money and putting you in danger?

So he did agree that the Government should serve the people but said I was corrupt. Which I agree'd but then I decided to drop why he felt voting Republican was somehow less corruption.

I then explained how in Canada the heath care was free, he felt confused because he wondered how people didn't take advantage of the system, I explained that trying to take advantage of the system was a legal issue, if you called 911 for a headache they would arrest you because it wasn't an emergency and you would be fined and possibly face jail time for it. Now this is presuming someone intentionally wanted to take advantage of the system, however since heath care is just a part of our lives, it doesn't occur to us to take advantage of it. It be like trying to take advantage of going to school, we can't even think of how we can take any more advantage of it then it already offers. (Maybe steal the toilet paper and chalk? buhdunno)

He was a little skeptical, "Doesn't that make your taxes more expensive?" in inquired.

"No" I stated with ease dropping some facts about how Americans already pay 16% of their taxes to heath care and Canadians only 9 or 10% and our taxes (by the dollar) are about the same (in fact I think Canada pays less) so he's already paying into a system that effectively doesn't work nor cover him.

It took a while and we argued for the better part of 2 hours over 2 days but in the end I think he's a little more liberal for it. Sure the system is corrupt but that doesn't mean you have to give up on it or refuse to let it change. He wishes there was a better overhaul then this bill and still thinks the bill needs to be sacked (which in a way it does, all the concessions in the bill has turned it to shit but it's a start at least, somethings better then nothing) but really. I didn't think people like him existed. I wonder if you could just find all these people and talk to them one on one and just give them calm honest facts and examples if maybe, just maybe one person at a time things could change for the better.

Then again, he WAS living in Japan which has a nationalized heath care system already so even though he was an American he has not lived there for like 7 years which might have been what it truly tok to open his opinions, but let me have my hope.

-Speaking of which, I've got a massive cold from hell and I've finally been able to test my Japanese Heath Insurance for the first time. Not as good as Canada (where I'd be paying nothing for the doctors visit and only 20% of the drug cost) but still a hell of a lot cheaper then having NO insurance (from 100$ for a visit and drugs to 20$ for a visit and drugs NICE!)

I was reading a text by a Jewish Scholar explaining one of the many reasons why Jews have such a hard time with Christianity and Christ. And in an apologist way I agree and disagree (agree because they are right, disagree because I don't want to piss off a few billion Christians, most of whom will kick my ass if I out and out say that Christ was a false prophet and their entire religion is a sham…)

The point the Scholar was making was that according to Jewish Texts (the Torah) it quite specifically in many places speaks of the laws given to the Jews by Moses being the Be all and End all of laws. That they were to last forever and anyone who disagreed with them or tried to add to them or take away from them or lead people away from them was wrong. And that all the teachings within them had to work together.

Christianity to Judaism has a lot of contradictions, in fact it is the Atheists delight to point out how Christians do not follow their own rules pretty much 99.6% of the time. (With .4% given to the following of maybe 2 or 3 of the 10 commandments, But totally missing/not even knowing about the 613 other old testament laws, give or take a few)

But the scholar made a point which I shake my head when Christians have this weirdest habit of making the same point.

Some "Christians" when you try to point out that certain parts of the "Old Law" don't apply to their religion any longer *coughlev18:22cough* they point out these Same Texts saying this law (that they naturally don't need to follow because it simply does not apply to them) still counts, and yet the 600 some odd other laws they ignore were "nailed to the cross"

Hypocrisy much? I think there was a rather big stint on that in the new testament…Something about "Be not like the Pharisees?"

Maybe Jesus was saying it right, after all he never really called people to break Moses law but indeed compelled them to follow it but with remembrance of the more important parts, helping people, caring for one another and loving God with all the other laws falling under those. Basically if you had to swim through a sea of pigs blood to save a drowning man, there should be no question about it, but at the time too many Jewish people had forgotten that which made Jesus a good reminder of it. But of course things tend to spiral out of control from some guy reminding people to stop being douchebags somehow turns into a virgin birth and a holy ascension and everyone forgets the detail of how he was telling them to stop acting like twits.

I wonder if it's possible to organize people together and not have it turn out really really badly at some point? Has Zen Daoism gotten into any fights yet?

Within the next 20 to 30 years one in 3 people are going to be living in what we can kindly call "unplanned housing unit" but unkindly is called a shanty town. We may in North America think we can turn a blind eye to this, deluding ourselves to believing that this is a "foreign problem" but this towns, especially in the aftermath of Katrina in the USA, have, do, and will exist in our own countries.
This is a housing disaster that is not the result of overpopulation as some may think in a knee jerk reaction, but a result of poor planning and a lack of development.

And we cannot rely on the government to bail us out of this.

The main reason it is so difficult for the government to get fully involved in this is partially politics, mostly red tape and a whole lot of funding issues.
In first world countries one of the biggest promises politicians keep making is to cut taxes, and yet we expect them to be able to react and function and give supplies to people in emergencies, when we ourselves are the ones trying to cut their purse strings.
Politicians are as far removed from actual people problems as Jupiter is removed from the Earth. They react to talking points, and popular issues by the nation at large, and the nation reacts to issues that are placed directly in front of them by the media, which only reacts to things that sell. Poverty, desperation and shame doesn't sell very well.
Government programs have to move through seas of red tape before they can even hit the ground, getting permission from locals, from higher authorities, from other agencies. It's not a matter of "here's a problem lets fix it" but "Here's an alleged problem, lets write a report about it, get the report assessed to see if it is a legitimate and immediate issue, get permission from our council to give funding to the issue and release funding to local chapters to deal with the issues so long as they can work on our budget and to our regulations."

The responsibility for dealing with our communities and through them our country and through that the world has to be done locally. We can look at another town and point out what we think the problem and the solution is but the people who really know are the ones who live there.

Not to say there isn't any hope or help.
Organizations like Architecture for Humanity working with the communities have designed and helped build what the community needs. From schools to community centres that double as AIDS treatment clinics, from football (the british kind) fields which teach girls how to keep themselves safe and HIV free to temporary houses in disaster areas that don't force the community to conform to an implemented style by outsiders but simply give them a resting place while they rebuild for themselves. Ranging from Tanzania to San Francisco, CA.

Money is what is mostly needed for these people. As little as $350 can build a house for a family but we're already dealing with a housing crisis and billions of people around the world, millions even at home needing housing. But something even more simple is at your fingertips. Design.

If you are an architect then do everyone a favour, don't roll around huge cathedrals as your gemstone achievements, but design economically and environmentally. If you're buying a house, or building a house, build to last, to survive and properly to save money and to have a firm design that can be passed on to others.

So long as you can be aware that there are others who need help, creating an innovative and sustainable design for ourselves should be the same as making it for everyone.

A big thing about this Blog is that unlike my other blogs which are inspired by things that happen, so I can always blog about something on them, this one is just inspired by thought. And since I try to avoid thinking too much (just makes me depressed) I need other people to generally present a thought and then I can mull it over and basically just re-post that thought in my own words here.

Sadly it seems for the rest of the world that March/April is a very busy time so all the blogs that I usually follow ( WideLawns GenderBitch and HootersGirl) are all on hiatus only updating once a week/once a month/ LIKE NEVER.

Really I guess it's my own fault, after all I only follow like 3 blogs. Well 6 but the other 3 I've given up on them ever updating since they haven't in like 4 months or so.

So I call, I cajole, I beg, can someone recommend me a blog? I like snappy, opinionated things that are usually funny and not too much "well today I had a tuna sandwich, I hope you all are doing good."

Mommy blogs usually drive me batty too since for the most part, I hate children.

As a Canadian I have a hard time understanding privatized heath care. I mean really the whole concept doesn't make sense. You pay taxes for the government to take care of you, isn't your basic heath one of those things? I mean if you're sick you can't work, if you can't work you can't pay taxes, you can't pay taxes the government runs out of money. It just makes sense, like minimum wage being high enough so everyone can get taxed on it properly.

(The lack of minimum wage in America boggles me too.)

I can't imagine why the average American could ever be AGAINST a systemized heath care system, I mean America already pays 16% of it's GDP towards a heath care system which ranks overall a little bit above third world countries.

16% of your taxes to pay for a heath care system that is only rivalled by witch doctors and herbalists. Now to give you a better idea the next highest payer in heath care is France at 11% of their GDP, and you know where they rank in health in the world? THIRD.
Talk about NOT getting what you pay for, each American personally pays for a completely ineffective heath care system, and 15% of all of America isn't even covered by this system that they pay into. Thos who already have privet care are double paying since they pay whatever privet insurance costs AND the 16% of their taxes going into the rest.

Say it with me now boys and girls What The Fuck.

Now a lot of you might wonder how is it possible that the heath care system is hemorrhaging money like that, well it's simple really. Since Hospitals are paid by the privet companies and pharmaceuticals their priorities are spending little to no money on you that the Insurance will cover, and as much money as possible as the insurance company won't cover. Because the Hospitals are pressured by this bottom line they pressure the doctors with this bottom line via bonuses and funding and the like. Because of this a lot of doctors really don't care about you.
The other problem is because there's no national heath care coverage there's no standardized cost of facilities. So costs can differ from hospital to hospital even in the same town for the exact same treatment. So when a hospital is then looking to get government subsidization they can charge whatever they want to get the funding they want.
In countries with nationalized care the Government sets the price for what treatment costs so across the board it always costs the same.

So now you might be standing there my American friends with a mild rage even wondering Why, WHY has no one spoken out about this system, why in the face of Obvious Problems has no politician no political party stepped up to the plate to bat for the American tax payer? (After all, you could be getting 5% back or more on your taxes if the heath care system got a SRS reform.)

Because it doesn't make money. Lobbiests and special interest groups like your insurance company are making hand over fist on your heath care plan. And really they are nearly 100% of the time scamming the pants off of you. Most American insurance covers very little while costing very much. According to one of my friends he paid 300$ a month (even when I was paying for my Japanese and extra Canadian coverage insurance I wasn't paying that much) For one person that's $3,600 a year that the company was making off of him, for 4 years he had this coverage and only needed to go to the doctors once for a flu. (A trip in Japan if you were paying straight up would cost less then 100$ including your medication, in Canada maybe 50$? Costs me 200$ for a year worth of birth control in Canada because I get stuff not covered by the government plan)
But that's all the insurance covered, no check-ups, no preventative shots, no terminal illnesses, chronic conditions, hereditary diseases, if he got diabetes he'd either be looking at double the insurance cost or losing his insurance altogether.
Insurance is (for Americans) a Scam and covers little to nothing. You'd be better off sticking the money in a bank and hope never to get ill. The money sitting in the account would probably cover the same amount the insurance ever would. Even if you just use it to buy a ticket to Canada and see a Doctor here.

So for the Companies it's a billion dollar business, which means for politicians it's campaign money, and since politicians only care about re-election not actually bettering society what's best for America they don't really give a shit about.

Really people, you should start writing letters to your elected officials and tell them to get on that fucking heath care reform bill and give you your 5% in taxes back.

Or at least start working on increasing minimum wage so everyone can afford to pay out 300$ a month to the lowest level of insurance.

Stopping Pandemics, and changing the world

The biggest move in the face of pandemics is early detection and early response. In a world that has not just survived smallpox, but has marked it as the first disease to be completely irradiated this has been the motto beaten into anyone who fights against diseases in the world.
To give you an idea, small pox has killed over 500 million people in the 20th century alone.
Can you even imagine?
That's 5 million people every year for 100 years who died of ONE disease.
13,000 people every day.
Thats as if 9-11 happened every day, FOUR TIMES A DAY.

And that's just one disease, this is ignoring everyone who died of wars, famine, and any other disease at the time.

(In reality it's even more since smallpox was declared gone in 1980, so really thats 6.25 million people every year for 80 years and that's just what we counted.)

But the small pox story is even more amazing then most realize.

It wasn't until 1967 that the WHO came up with what seemed at the time to be a radical agenda to irradiate small pox from the world. It had never been done before and for the most part it was a poor countries disease.
There were 34 countries heavily affected by smallpox.
By 1970, only 3 years later, inoculations had cut that down to 18 countries with any reported cases of smallpox.
By 1974 only 5. India is where smallpox made its last stand, with a population of 600 million and 21 linguistics states the message of how to catch and stop the disease was a difficult one.

21 million people were on the road at any given time, either due to class issues or religious ones.

But that's not what caused the standstill in India.

It was a religious belief that smallpox was caused by a deity, and thus it was wrong to bring strangers into your house to treat it.

Mass vaccinations on a worldwide scale can't work, every year in India alone there are 21 million babies, It's like trying to vaccinate Canada every year. (And as Canadians can vouch, trying to mass vaccinate Canada didn't fly too well last year with H1N1, and we have free health care.)

Can you imagine what must be done then? What kind of work are we looking at when we really talk about finding a Cure for a disease, when we talk about Stopping a Pandemic.

150,000 people making 1 billion house calls, personally informing each and every person in the house of the disease and what to do in the face of it.

That's like personally making 6,667 visits. Spending over an hour every day at each house with pictures and pamphlets informing them of everything involved with the disease and treating and dealing with it if you had the dark luck of running into it. (Luck because you were there and could stop it, unlucky because it was there to begin with) (This would average 5 houses every day 365 days a year for 4 years per person, minimum)
Every house, every month, for 4 years was searched until the cases of small pox was 0.
It was the largest and longest campaign of the United Nations until the Iraq war.

Pandemic diseases are a case of worry. When they hit the stage of person to multiple person transfer planes stop, the world is placed on a standstill. We've never had that issue before but we've been panicked into it a few times. The Bird Flu in 2006, the H1N1 of 2009.
The news stirs us into a fervour about it because that's what sells but it is a very serious matter, it's a matter that if not controlled could wipe out entire towns, cripple nations and put the world at a standstill.
The consequences of a global pandemic in our globalized world, are unthinkable.

It's all about early detection and early response.

Fortunately there is an organization out there known as GPHIN which is a part of the WHO but run by Canada. It's an electronic system that gathers data of any public health significance around the world.

It caught SARS 3 months before WHO announced that it was occurring (before the first cases left China) SARS became the pandemic that never was because it had an Early Detection and while 3 months is a little slow, Early Response.

SARS could have killed 3 billion people in the first year around the globe. Thanks to GPHIN and WHO it only killed 8000.

The world needs to open up, to be aware. Not in hysteria but in hope, to detect issues and respond to it before it is too late. Problems become overwhelming because we ignore them until it is too late to deal with it and then we give up on it.

After all, 1 billion households may seem like a lot to visit to say, end hunger around the world, to stop AIDS, to bring about peace.

But it's only 5 houses a day to change the world.

I think I might be racist.

Now I know my black friends are going to look at this post and go "wtf?" After all, I've got more then one black friend, I don't treat them any different then white friends or asian friends, and most of them know I barely even notice what people look like (mostly because my eyesight it so shit I can't see nothing anyway, I tell who people are based on their voices.)

And yet, whenever I see a stupid black preacher saying dumb shit, or a gangster rapper on TV talking about booty and bling, whenever I watch the Tyra show where she gives girls a "makeover" and they're all just screaming "NAH-STAY" and snapping their fingers at each other I just want to CLAW MY OWN FACE OFF.

Maybe it's because "White culture" has labelled all this as "Black Culture" and anything white culture deems as idiotic is what it labels as black culture any time I see a black person acting like a dumb shit my white privilege pops up and categorizes those 2 or 3 dumb black people as representatives for the whole race.

After all it's not like there are not white folk or asians or whatever that don't act stupid. Bam whateverthefuckhislastnameis also pisses me off, is he representative of white culture as a whole? (In a sense yes, since most white boys I know that are 15-23 make me want to claw their faces off) M&M the person not the candy bugs me too sometimes, although sometimes he's not so bad.

Societal Debt and Bucket lists

Sorry I haven't been updating lately, been taking classes in teaching and since those are boring as dirt I've really got not much to blog about.

But I was having an interesting conversation with a net friend regarding bettering society due to a societal debt that we all have. Basically her argument goes that because we were born, we owe a debt to our parents (granted, since I argue that birth is a selfish act of the parents and not a choice of the child that debt until the child is able to care for itself is null and void.) This debt is furthered by society (depending on the governmental system) giving us things (education and the like) and our parents further provisions after we're able to care for ourselves (and I'd agree to a point, in some societies these boons ((education)) are enforced and not a choice, if a gift is forced it is not a gift but already an obligation and thus no debt is incurred.)

Now I argued against societal debt to a point, people owe enough not to become hedonists but not so much that they need to always work at paying off their debt else they may reach a point where they feel they are entitled to something, and while we are expected to work for society, like hell it will pay us back, hence we to a point need to use society to make it pay us back for our work to further it.

Anyway, based on this thought I was also thinking about "Bucket Lists" (for those that don't know, lists of things to do before you die)

Now pondering these lists and the movie of the same title I thought that these lists are kind of bad in the sense that no one ever really works towards them until they've resigned themselves to the inevitable fate of death. Once they've registered that their number is up, they then feel entitled to do whatever they want because nothing (apparently) is worse then the death that they already face, however often these bucket lists incur a lot of that hedonistic self serving acts that causes an individual to owe society or those around them something for acting in such a manner.
Plus, since there's the looming threat of death how can one truly enjoy their "final acts of happiness"?

So at this time I propose "Life Lists"... bad name but I'm not feeling terribly snappy right now.

Essentially the idea is the same as a bucket list, except one performs the acts upon the list long before they become ingrained into society, essentially a list of things you want to do before you die, and then you do them before you even get a mortgage or have children. That way, you've got the time to finish all of them, you can live the rest of your life with little to no regrets and then you can fulfill your role in society as a good person having finished everything you've ever wanted to do.

It then gives you no excuse not to work to pay back your debt to the universe or world or whatnot. (As one of the reasons people don't do certain acts of kindness is usually attributed to inner greed and "needing things for the future" but if you've finished this life list, you can consider the rest of your life on borrowed time that you owe the world.)

At this point then, what is on your bucket list?

Remember a while back where I had a debate about Macs Vs PC's and I said that possibly the best system to have would be to have your Mac attached to the internet and to have a PC to the side not attached to the internet?

Well considering all your security softwear and backups are useless in the face of someone who really wants your computer, that advice is sounding even better.

Although I'd update it a notch. Frankly, I don't really like online banking that much. Sure I think it's okay to a point, but that's only because I don't have any money myself so it's okay for me to use it. What are they going to do? Withdraw my life savings of 200$? I don't even have an overdraft thing so once that money is gone they can't suck me any more dry than I am. Even my credit card is only worth 500$. I'm a cash only kind of girl and I love me some RRSP's.
I'd say people need to become more face to face, take some time to stop, smell the roses and read a book while you stand in line at the ATM, hell I'd even go as far as to say this whole instant card carrying society is one of the reasons we have such economic problems. Since that has to be the most dangerous thing you do on the internet then skip that, get your Mac for your facebook and whatnot and then have a PC in the corner to do your taxes. With a good thumbdrive it's easy to transpher whatever you need from the Mac to the PC and vice versa, and even if you transpher a virus that steals your info onto the PC, a scan will clear it and it's not like the virus has anywhere to go trapped on your desktop.

in other news. I need to buy earplugs and remember never to make plans with my family again.

I hate that show "Two ton teen" it's like watching a child get abused on TV and people are supposed to feel bad for the abuser.

Now, I realize, some people have big bones, some people are just a little husky and some have thyroid problems that leave them healthy, but a little on the "large" size.

To those that have big tits and a nice ass I say to you, you are not fat.

I find that Fat and Chubby or what Obease is now a day's to be vastly different things.

If you cannot see your genitalia without having to move your stomach flap out of the way, if you have Knakles (Not cankles where you calf can't be found from your ankle but where your KNEE can't be distinguished from your Calf which cant be found from your Ankle)
If you weigh over 300 pounds and you are not a 7 foot tall man or a professional sumo wrestler (have you actually seen pro japanese sumo wrestlers? that shit ain't fat, that is a tank of muscle.) You my whale of a friend are a fatass and are what docters are talking about when they complain about the strain to the health care system fat people are.

Frankly I'm always shocked and appalled people can ever get that way.
All my teeth are sweet teeth, I don't like exercising, I hate going out and I'm happiest on my ass with chocolate playing WoW but yanno what, I know that *I* don't want to be fat, that *I* want to live past 30 without diabetes so *I* know to eat right sometimes and to occasionally get off my ass and go out. If you're over 14 years old and you're huge then you are the only one to blame and frankly I think instead of paying 10k to put you through gastric bypass surgery someone should just buy you a ticket to africa and drop you off in the middle of a farming village. Cheaper, you'd learn and lose weight, and the chances of survival and not gaining the weight again are probably about the same as invasive surgery on your stomach.
If you're under 14 you need to be taken away from you parents because they are using food as a form of child abuse.
And then I blame them and pity you.

As for the 2 tonne teen show, I think they should air it, but I think that the kids should also get taken away from their parents.

I find for myself, speaking on feminism, is that the “feminist” movement was originally designed, in theory at least, as an embracing of the feminine to make it of equal and respected status as the masculine.

However, since it’s creation (at least in North America since 1970/80ish) it hasn’t had anything to do with gender equality or even equality of female traits or even raising the status of the feminine, but instead has become a form of hyper-masculinity that is fueled by a hatred of all things that have a penis. Which not only tears down any credibility one has in the arena of “Gender Equality” but also destroys the very concept of the feminine that feminism CLAIMS to stand for.

Instead of making it of equal value to be a woman, instead of embracing female traits and feminine qualities, feminists simply make it okay to be men while having a vagina, by proving that they can be even BETTER men by having a vagina.
Feminism is no longer about re-defining the woman as something valuable, it’s about replacing masculinity with a new ovary filled masculinity and then calling that the “new feminine” all the while killing off all of the original feminist qualities.

I wonder if this sub-plot isn’t also one of the reasons why many “Rad Fems” have such burning hate for more specifically trans women (instead of trans men, which in a way would be their ideal woman minus the surgery because penis’s are bad) because just as men traditionally tend to believe, the TRUE feminine is evil and wrong, therefore women who embrace that feminine tend to be the one’s “Rad Fems” point out as being tainted by a patriarchal society, and subsequently trans women must be even more wrong because they were BORN into the privileged ideal that all “feminist women” should strive for (to be men) and yet are “choosing” to cast that off and embrace what they’ve so heinously marked as “weak, misogynist and unneeded”.

Wow.

Sometimes I get a little excited. Something nice happens, people seem kinda swell and shit doesn't hit the fan. I was having a good week, had a big talk with the boyfriend and we came to some agreements and my crazy didn't seem to freak him out. Hey all is right in the world! People might not be the ginormus douchy assholes I usually assume they are.
And then someone who seems to be trying to do the right thing turns around and shows their true crazy colours and pisses all over my parade.

Don't believe me? Well clearly I'm right because *I* have a big sci-fi vagina! Unlike my trans-dimentional tentical woman friend from planet sexy.

In any case, last time I checked my Sci-Fi Vageener was fully up to date on the latest installment of "Logic 2.0" and excuse my "Douchebaggery detector" apps but making the claim that a woman can't deal with logic* doesn't seem very feminist. Or the claim that only people that can get pregnant can be raped, which means clearly once a trans-woman gets a vagina she could never be raped, as well as women who have gone through hysterectamies or my mum. Really, that is some "Radical Feminism" you have there when only WORKING sets of ovaries are permitted to have valid opinions (I mean, so long as you are thinking with your crotch and not your brain)

Guess I'll have to hand in my Confident Pussy membership card because at least according to some people functioning mental facilities are a "Man Toy" that I guess women shouldn't play with.

And Dad blogged about it like bloggers do. Now when doing this he must have know the general opinion behind hooters and thus the controversy that bringing his son there and then announcing to the world that he did would do.

No, no ladies, not that I have a problem with hooters, you guys have the best chicken wings ever and I love reading the menu.

But I don't understand this controversy that people have. I mean hooters girls are no less nor no more "Slutted up" than your average girl on the street half the time. However unlike those girls, they've got the excuse of being paid for it in order to dress like that. But even then, what's wrong with dressing a little showy? What's wrong with our "Puritan Society" where we show everyone these images of women dressed, exactly like that, and then look down upon the women who take the time and effort to dress as the media tells us to dress anyway?

The only reason I know that I kind of scoff at those women is because I'm jealous and because women are the most vicious self and group shamers
We put down women who are pretty because we want to be that pretty, we put down women who are less pretty because we want to verify that our flaws are somehow better, we put down people that dress in less, that make money off their bodies (either innocently by waitressing or by actually selling their physicality via modeling/stripping or prostitution/porn) we put down people that dress in more.

You know, so long as the Dad showed those girls respect, and told his son to give them respect too then the son is going to walk away from there with a fine and healthy attitude, one that maybe many of his friends who still look at hooters like a low level strip club don't have. Taking him at a young age (11) takes the mystery out of the place and maybe some of the scaryness out of the changes a lot of girls his own age are going through right now. Maybe now while his friends are stuttering because one of the girls in the class is touting herself a pair he can ignore them realizing that there is still a person underneath all that.

In any case ladies. You're all beautiful and hopefully there will be one boy out there who will be able to ignore all the pomp and fuss and realize that.

I was watching TV where it was giving advice for people "addicted" to the internet or games on how to "Give it up"

Now sure, people should try to have control over their habits and if something is interfering with your ability to function in other areas of your life then maybe you should see about giving it up.

But the internet and games? to dedicate a good 15 min of news programming on getting your kids to kick the x-box habit? Man I can think of much worse habits. Maybe because I'm not one of those scary gamers that freak people out that I just don't see the problem but if it makes them happy they're not bothering anyone, they're saving money staying home, they're not going to kill people by drinking and interneting, they won't overdose on Wii and die or something. So what? Let them have their internet.

Sometimes if I need to express something I'll make some phrase or sentence up, and it will sound like a commonly used phrase to someone perhaps not familiar with modern coloquialisms.

In highschool my "catch phrase" was "Fuck you, in the ear, with a cactus" There are yearbooks with that signed in it and I think it was in my graduation thing under my picture. (I don't remember and I burned the book, ahh good times good times)

Recently I coined "Black Blessing" to denote a situation where something sad has happened, but there is a silver lining to it. (For example, a person who was in a lot of pain dying. It's sad because their dead, but good because they're no longer suffering.)

My Boyfriend has a problem with these catch phrases, mostly because he says they sound good and catchy. So I think he's mad he didn't think of them himself.

And he's the kind of guy that if it didn't come from his brain, it's a bad idea.

I give it about a month before he uses those himself and just tells people he came up with them.

Vacation post

Haven't been posting because I've been on a lot of vacations, and to be an asshole I'm going to gloat now.

Day One-September 21st:

Woke up at 7:30, made sure I had everything, however I still forgot to bring my sandals. Ziggy dropped me off at the airport since she was picking up her brother in law from the airport. Got to the airport and met up with Pam, we had a bit of a mix up since she was coming in through the international gate since she was flying in from LA already and I was coming in domestic which is on the opposite side. We figured that out after a while and were able to get together and spot a cab to the port.

HOLY LONG LINE BATMAN!

Waited in a huuuugggggeee like HUUUUUGGGGEEE line for about an hour and a half before someone ran down the line calling for anyone left in our voice acting group.

Pam and I were pulled out but I turned away for a second and they disappeared, I looked around and someone grabbed me and said "hurry hurry get on the boat" and lead me there. I got on the boat and then they asked for a card I was supposed to get earlier but didn't because someone grabbed me. So they sent me back. Which then at the other gate they didn't know what to do with me because I had already gone through customs so they had me standing there for like 15 min arguing over what they had to do with me. Finally someone just let me out of the "contained" area and sent me back to the line that was still about 2 hours long. I jumped line to the front and one of the gates people yelled at me and so I did what I do when I get yelled at and I don't know what I'm doing.

I cried like a bitch.

Which made him feel bad and he lead me to the lady who was supposed to give me a card and then right up to the ship.

Met my roommate Leah Cevoli Debs Friend and a voice on Robot Chicken at the mandatory ship drill (we put on life vests and line up for getting on the emergency boats) and followed her to register with the group and get my bag of swag. Then I wandered around and tried to complete the scavenger hunt. I got a lot, but I still didn't win.

We went to Debbie Munro's birthday party which Deb herself missed most of, (lol poor Deb) then went to dinner where I chatted with Julie Williams and her assistant Pam whom is a "The big bang theory" fan and a star trek nerd.

Went dancing after that with Deb and her two daughters and a few other people like George Whittam Who is a tech God.

Did not sleep at all that night because of the motion of the ocean as it were.

Day 2:

uuuggghhh rocky boat.

We arrived in Astoria, I was up quite early and wandered around the boat a bit. had a bacon filled breakfast with some pancakes that were kinda gross and some french toast that was kinda FABULOUS!!

I went back to the room after hitting the ship library and getting myself a fantasy smut novel. Deb came rushing in and got Leah and I to come with her and her daughters off the boat on what she thought was the last boat to port, but it wasn't X_X
We got some water and Deb and her girls (Brandy, her eldest who was replacing one of Debs assistance's who cut out at the last moment, and Melissa her youngest who is the most mature 14 year old I've ever met even though she peppers her words with more "likes" than a valley girl) decided to take the 3 mile hike up to this tower on a mountain. Leah and I met up with Pickles (I can't remember his first name) His friend (I can't remember his name at all) and a girl with glasses and brown hair whom I also can't remember the name of. (XoX) I suck at remembering names.

We took a cab to the "Goonies" house

And passed the school from Kindergarten Cop

And then Leah and I walked down the beachfront to the port again. I'll have to get pictures up later since my Camera battery had died by then. *facepalm*

I sunbathed in the shade for a while and kept reading my smutty fantasy book (By Anne Bishop I believe, good book too) until about 5:30 then I got dressed and went to Bob Bergen's comedy show. It wasn't that bad, funniest part was when it was interrupted by the ship captain and some local historian who felt like telling us about when Lewis and Clark had visited the town of Astoria too or something like that. Very WTF moment.
Then it was dinner, I think Bob joined us for dessert... Or was that Day 3... No no it was this day. And we all talked about what we wanted to get out of Voice acting, he spoke of goals and how he felt that people needed very very specific goals for their career or else they'd just float and feel like they didn't accomplish anything. Bob's goal was to be the next Porkey Pig. I know my goal is to voice act in Japan which means I need to work a lot harder on my Japanese to be able to get to that level. Jean Freeman was also at my table, she wants to get into Audiobooks which Bob said there's really no money in that and he doesn't know anything about it.

After dinner hmmm what did we do after dinner that night? OH I went bowling and bowled a perfect game!

Of Zero!

It was kind of epic but because of the waves the ball would randomly curve crooked at points. So it would be going right down the center and then the boat would tip and it would veer directly into the gutter. I just had the worst luck with it since even Pam who had a back problem so was essentially dropping the ball onto the floor still got down one or two pins every round. I was epically bad.

Day 3:

This day was the first day of the workshops. I had Bob all day for the animation voices class. We all got scripts and then each went up to mike and Bob hammered at us until he was satisfied.

Ah vaz Helgah, ah had a very naughty child to scold.

I did okay, Bob said I made good choices with my read but that I need to stop internalizing my read and just convict to what I'm doing and do it.

I drew pictures of what I imagined the characters of some of the other peoples voices would look like, I'll put those up later as well... And by later I mean sometime in November when I get back from my Japan trip. X_X busy busy.

We went to dinner which I can't remember at all... Then went to Karaoke. I sang... Dirty and Bohemian Rhapsody with the group. Bob came in and sang "New york" as Porkey Pig which actually pissed off some older people who didn't like that we were all doing character voices up there and they left but one lady realized he was THE Pig and made her husband take pictures.
After that I spoke with Bill Holmes and he taught me craps, but the table was closed down so we played 20$ worth of blackjack. I walked away with 45$ and he left with his original 20.
I met up with Deb and Leah later and we went to this dance contest. Deb and Leah joined up for a laugh, Leah was partnered with a professional dancer but I think the judges were out to get him so she was out the first round. (T_T)

Deb however was a hoot and she won in the end. (^_^)b

She got a bottle of champagne and a little trophy, I wish I could have taped it but like I said, dead camera.

Crazy night.

Day 4:

We arrived in San Fransico but it was also the first day of my period! YAY!!!!

So it felt like tiny demons were trying to crawl their way out of my uterus. So I decided today was the day to take advantage of being on vacation. I stayed in bed until noon, ordered room service of chicken fingers and chocolate cake (OMG YESSSSS) and then wobbled out around 2:30 to get to the "cocktail party" in the "Bliss" club room. I actually drank alcohol that night because that's the best thing to take with pain meds. :D

We went to dinner and I sat with Bob for a bit, then Bill for a bit, then in the end was seated with Deb which she's always a blast and a half. We all scattered but met up again in Bliss for Karaoke. I sang "Fly me to the Moon" and was told I did a good job after so yay. Bob sang "Blue Christmas" as Porkey again which was funny. "I'll have a be-bl-bl-bu-be-turquoise c-Christmas.." Bill sang "Under my Skin" which then another producer that he didn't realize who she was came up and danced with him for that which was cute.

After Bill and I played one quick hand of blackjack and I won 10$ and he lost everything.

Day 5:

Workshops again today. I had my audition with Bill for a little ship contest he was having. But my partner who signed up with me didn't show so I read with Bills son, Bill pointed out this was a good lesson for me in that if you do partnered auditions make sure you know the other person because they can screw you like that.

Went to Julies "Medical Mumbo Jumbo" class and talked about words I can't even spell and barely read. Then went to Bills class where we learned to bark like a dog and talked about agents and how to get one.

Went to Debs improve class where I was a box and she talked about filling me and it was totally inappropriate but fun.

Last I went to Joyce Castellanos Promos class which was kind of neat. It's all about being the voice you hear in the background of movies or being the voice over for when the actors can't be picked up by the mike and you need to fill in their voices.

That night we had dinner and I got a free bottle of wine which I gave to Bill for playing blackjack with me all the time. I lost 20$ on the table this time so I cut out pretty fast. Leah and I went to the all you can eat Chocolate buffet and got a plate for Deb and her girls who then got their own plates so we had way to many. We took some up to Julie and Pam and I chatted with Bill who gave me a copy of his movie "Stump the Band"

Then it was off to bed.

Day 6:

Landed in LA, got off the boat, got on the boat again, went up to try and get breakfast but as soon as I sat down to get some got called to get back off the boat. X_X
Got in line behind Bob so I chatted a bit getting off the boat. Went to Leah's house and passed out on her couch with her cats then helped her set up for the BBQ wrap up party.

Went to the party, had an awesome time, won a bottle of vodka almost as big as I am. Cracked it open and tried to pawn it off on anyone who would drink but no one really wanted it. Leah took it home in the end. Went home with Leah, Pickles, Deb and her girls. Saw a little car crash in front of Leah's place that she was not the cause of, but basically, she stopped on the side of the road, the car behind her stopped to get into a different lane of traffic to let her get out of her car, the car behind that car stopped too. The car behind THAT car did not stop. Yikes!

Leah dropped me off at the airport after that since my flight was at like 6:30 am which means I had to be at the airport at 4:30am because it was an international flight and it was already 1:00am so I figured I'd best just stay the night there. Froze my non-existant nutsacks off at the airport, Goddamn it was cold, and then I was on my way home.

I have the worst case of Dock Rock ever. I'm on dry stable land and I feel dizzy and rocky and seasick. It's ridiculous but that's what happens sometimes.

Going to Japan again in like 2 days, so expect Ramen Bowl to update, but not much from here.

Okay, the nerdy part of this is this happened in my WoW guild.

Anyway, I was called an Asshole yesterday because I called someone's brother a dumbass because he got arrested.
Now when someone gets arrested in general, that's a pretty dumbass move unless they're getting it for like, protesting or something. But even then...

But no, I'm the jerk because I had to comment with less than pity because some guy got a DUI 5 years ago, got his license taken away, got 2 speeding/driving without a license tickets, and had a warrent out for his arrest because of all this.

Nope, you don't get my pity, and I don't care if this makes me the jerk.

I mean first off, I have no pity towards anything bad that happens to drinkers. Drinking is an irresponsible act in and of itself, but if you think that you need to poison yourself to have fun that's your bag, but when you do something dumb and hurt yourself. No pity from me.

I've been debating marrying a woman simply for the conveniance of having a like minded partner around. Even though I don't feel any sexual attraction to many women, I just find men to be way to fucking annoying, nice to look at, wonderful to hold, but once in my house I want to tack their balls to the wall.

On a compleatly unrelated subject my boyfriend from Japan has been visiting me for the last 3 weeks. Having to work, come home and clean up after a second person, cook for another person and entertain someone that has very little imagination, is kind of lazy and has none of the same interests that I do, I'm a little miffed with him on occasion.

To catch a mouse, Trap 1 and 2

Well the mouse is still here.

My Roommate Ziggy told the landlord about it a while ago and he sent some guy to spray for it. Sadly there was no 12 point inspection, just a "So where do you think it's coming in?" and squirting some poision around that general vicinity.

Yay dead mouse in the wall? Huzzah to the black mold?

in either case, considering ours was the ONLY apartment he sprayed, and Ziggy saw the mouse come in one day from under the apartment door I don't think that helped.

So I've built 2 traps.

One of my own devising made from ducktape.

I created a ducktape floor and a little ducktape cave, then, put some peanut butted in the cave. Hopefully he gets stuck. then I'll try to cut him free, and give him to the manager as a gift.

Trap 2 involves the lid to one of those big 50 spool of CD's, some paper, and more ducktape.

I folded up 2 peices of paper and taped them about an inch apart with the ducktape. In the center of the tape I put some chocolate then braced the paper against the spool.

Hopefully when the mouse makes a grab for the Chocolate, the spool will fall down on him and trap him.

we'll have to see which one works.

I was reading an editorial today which was a response to an older editorial. The older one was talking about how inconvenient it was at farmers markets when a person was pushing a baby stroller which then took up the entire isle not allowing anyone to get anywhere holding up people in both directions forcing everyone to conform to whatever direction the stroller pusher is going.

The writer stated that she is looking into seeing if either new market lines can be drawn so that the isle are large enough for everyone to get through, or if strollers can be banned.

The responder was a mother, who had two stroller bound children, who believed that by taking a 2 year old and a 6 month old to the farmers market she was teaching them about local economies. But she couldn't be expected to carry them and do this! So everyone else must respect her choice to take her sprogs out in public and not bitch or cast her dirty looks because she's in their way and won't move.

That's right, these kids are going to be able to understand the concept of local economics before they understand the concept of using a toilet.

Oh fuck you lady.

You chose to have kids, you chose to take them outside, you chose to buy a 2 seater stroller, you chose to take them out in public. Fuck you in the ear if the public chooses to tell you to move your big ass and your ugly offspring. You feel offended by us then YOU stay home, why should we stay home? I have a Friend, lets call him Fires. Anyway keeping that story short Fires is kind of dead and as it turns out he was a phoenix. I have a new Friend, lets call her Recursive. She has a blog that is all about her firey transcendence into a new existence at Girl in Progress

Anyway her blog was dealing with sexuality in the sense of "What turns you on"

Now halfway through she started going into gender issues and so fourth so my eyes kind of glazed over but sexuality is something that I find kind of interesting since sometimes I wonder if I am a Lesbian or an "Asexual" (or pansexual? frankly I think all of these terms are a crock of shit so I don't really care to learn any of them) simply because I am not a Bisexual and being a Heterosexual doesn't ever really do it for me.

I am attracted to men, and I am not a virgin, and I might talk a good dirty talk amongst the boys and girls and I'm a regular smut mouth on the internet I'm actually an extreme prude when behind closed doors. So to not name names but list numbers, of the 3 guys I have slept with I have never orgasmed with them. (Which apparently Orgasmed is not a word. Orgasm is and I guess has no past tense.)
If it wasn't for the fact that I've been giving them (orgasams that is) to myself for years I'd be inclined to believe that the silly things don't exist and wonder what women were all up in arms over on those sex in the city shows.

This leads me to wonder if maybe I am a Lesbian.

Now I know I know sexuality is more then just whom you are able to get off with. But I am attracted to very effeminate men. (My dream guy is Miyavi and yes that is a He)
I was hitting on a (maybe transgendered maybe just a butch dyke) girl at one point before I went to Japan and my heart has never fluttered harder than when I was flirting with this girl in a bar. (But I chickened out from calling her and found out she had a girlfriend anyway.) And there are girls that I'm attracted to as well. I know that I'm so far in the closet I'm having tea with the Lion and Witch next to my very small collection of shoes but I'd feel bad to just experiment with some girl. Plus, I have a hard time picking up people anyway. I mean my first boyfriend was in grade 12, my second boyfriend wasn't for 6 years after I broke up with my first and the third sexual encounter was just a guy I met on the internet and turned me off of that whole idea. (Although I still go on and cocktease for fun)

Frankly I've come to the idea that sex is silly and I don't understand it nor much care for it.

Religion, get out of my Science

There's only one issue I have in dealing with science and religion. The biggest one is that science is more than willing to say "I don't know yet." and have that stand as an answer until they come up with a good answer.
Once they have come up with a satisfactory answer it's not the be all end all as other scientists base their entire careers on simply destroying what pioneer scientists say.
They don't have to have apologists for their theories, run circles around their papers when there are shown to be inconsistencies and never, never does anything stand on the reasoning of "Because I said so."
If something is wrong it is crossed out, thrown out and re-written afresh with the new answer.

Religion not only does not do this, one of its main tenants is avoiding this at all costs. Can you imagine if Christianity went through the Bible and crossed out and openly re-wrote the Bible based on its current beliefs and new knowledge?

Genesis 1:1-24, And God exploded into the universe and after 6 billion years formed the sun which gave fourth heat and light to the molten balls of matter which were to become the earth and celestial bodies surrounding it. God waited another 12 billion years for the earth to cool and assisted in forming H2O molecules over the surface of the planet and saw this was good.
He went on to create other galaxies and when he returned and saw the creatures upon the earth, dumb violent creations he wrathfully altered the atmosphere just a little to cool the planet and kill off the largest and weakest of the beasts. Using biochemistry he created the first living creature from components similar to those found in dirt a one cell amoeba he named Adam, the amoeba split into many forms and over a long time using selective breeding he created a breed of humanoid like creatures whom he watched over for millennium until he chose a select pair and mated them together creating Eve the mother of humanity and the first human.

Accurate, still has God, Roman Catholics would have a SHIT.

Religion expects us to plug our ears and close our eyes to reality and believe that events in the Bible literally took place. And then has the audacity to say it can work with science or that it is scientifically accurate when the only way that is possible is by taking things non-literally, that "close enough" is good science, and believing that "GOD DID IT" is a good reason for every time an experiment or fact doesn't check up.

A fully formed human cannot be created from dirt in a 24 hour period unless we're talking about molecular re-arrangement which since that doesn't exist, is a "GOD DID IT PLUG YOUR EARS" moment.
A clone cannot change sex's, they are a copy of their original not an entirely new entity with their own DNA structure.
If we ever reach a stage where spontaneous complex creation like that can take place or be observed then sure, science would have no problem turning around and saying "Oh okay I guess it is possible for the human race to be only 6,000 years old" When we can manipulate genes so well that cloning becomes the norm and select DNA strands can be chosen to create a biologically agreeable yet superior copy of yourself then sure the Eve story could be plausible.

Or even, even when we find God him/herself and he/she is totally willing to demonstrate to us all that his/her powers are beyond our ability to comprehend and he controls reality itself then sure, science would be willing to throw itself out the window and say religion has it.

But until then science looks at religion and goes "ooohhhkkkkaaayyyyy" and backs away slowly. But religion is like a guy that doesn't know when no means no and keeps on trying to press science onto itself even while science is screaming and reaching for it's mace.

That's why people not only become atheists. But pissed off atheists that attack religions. Because religions have this nasty habit of starting shit they don't even understand the rules of.

But like I said, If Religion stays out of Science then I'm perfectly willing to keep my Scientific side out of Religion.

I really hate this idea that tends to come, most specifically from Christians in their many forms, from people that those who have no religion are somehow more immoral than the religious.

It propagated in churches, in intelligent design books, amongst the religious that anyone, who chooses to suspend belief or to disbelieve in a higher power that dictates not just our existence but our morality to us, the denial of this being makes all our works, all our group morals irrelevant.

Frankly I always see this statement as the reverse.

Whenever a religious person assumes that an Atheist is immoral due to their Atheism it makes me think that they must be the truly immoral one.

An Atheist helps an old woman across the road because they want to, because he or she on a deep personal level has seen the good and usefulness of that. They have no reason to feel more righteous than other people unless they have truly lived a righteous life. Unless 10% of their money goes to charity 50% of their time goes to good deeds they personally don't feel they've lived a morally good life.

A Religious person helps an old woman cross the street because God told them to. They might not like doing it, in fact they may purposefully tell themselves they don't see the old lady just to avoid having to follow Gods commandment to help her. They may pervert Gods word or outright pick and choose which of his commandments to follow so that they can get the surface feeling of being morally good, without actually having to do any of the work for it. They don't have to donate their money or do good works, showing up with their noses in the air to a building every weekend (or some just once a year) puts them in the moral right. There is no effort involved no work, no deep feeling that "This is right to do BECAUSE *reason*" they do it because "God said so" and they barely understand why God said so nor do they bother to question is it really good or not.

To me, Religious are immoral.

Unlike Atheists who have developed their own morals over time and haver personal creeds for being good Religious claim to have no personal morals. They're following some archaic rules that were set down over 2,000 years ago and thank goodness that some very Atheistic thinking people have snuck into the religious circles and personalized moral their ways else we'd still be selling our daughters and forcing them to marry their rapists and never enjoying a nice slice of bacon.

Mac Vs. PC

Now I'm not that big of a tech geek. I don't need the latest gadget to be happy and I don't often care about the X-Box Vs. Playstation Vs. Nintendo. Give me what works and what's fun and I'm happy.

But when it comes to the computer I'm a bit of a Mac girl.

Now this all came about because I was watching a talk about technology and simplicity, at how in an attempt to get more simple things instead have gained more features and these features rarely even work but their purpose is to make things simple which in turn creates a complexity that just stresses the user out and stresses out the computer itself.

The speaker mentioned how the Mac has in the last 5-10 years re-thought simplicity and really embraced it.

Anyway, this all reminded me about a discussion that I had with a friends boyfriend and how he scoffed at my mac.
His words were "For the amount you paid for that I could build..." and I had to stop him there.

This is the terrible cutting point between your casual Mac fan and your hardcore PC fan.

"I could build."

Sure, I could build a PC that works 5 times as fast as my Mac does for probably the same price or less, however the key words there are "I BUILD"

If you take a 1,500$ Mac out of the box, turn it on, one hour later once you download the CD you've got a computer that is going to function exactly the same as the day you bought it until it's circuits burn out.
If you take a 1,500$ PC out of the box, tun it on, one hour later you've probably got some online software updates knocking at your internet connection but after that you're good to go but three years down the road you've probably had a few virus warnings, had to do a couple of spam scans and chances are you're running a bit laggier than you used to.

Sure, if you decide to take the time and effort into building a good PC you can probably do it for less and get a great machine but with a Mac You. Don't. HAVE to.

Not to say I think the Mac is the cat's Meow. I have issues with it as well.

The RTF TextEdit program it comes with is good and simple but because I'm a windows girl I still haven't figured out how to double space things and this will be an issue down the road when I have essays to hand in. Plus it doesn't have a grammar check.

Mac's don't play games, they're not dominate enough in the market to get games and the games they do get cost an arm and a leg, same goes for their general software. Because not too many people have Mac's the computer itself and the fun extra stuff for it is very expensive and you can't find downloads of it to swipe it for free.

But frankly, I think that both platforms have their good and bad. And the best solution would be to have both. Have a PC you never connect to the internet that just plays games, and have a Mac that you use for all your business and internet stuff.

But since I should be doing work and not playing games, the Mac is the best thing for me.

So, get a Mac.

((Okay some of my other issues with the mac are the writing program, the lack of a build in right click and a few other things but basically for a computer that works fast and on the internet it's nice.)

School Kills Creativity

When we're kids the things that we get to do are interesting and diverse, fun even, and yet as we age and continue through the educational program we too are programed. Not only to fear being wrong, as when we are children we are often wrong but there is often nothing wrong with it, we are wrong in funny and creative ways which occasionally turn out to be right, but to treat fun as something bad.

Oddly enough this seems to be universal across countries.

Go into any school in the world and what are considered to be academically the top or best classes to be smart in? Math, Science, Language.
Under that we have Social Sciences, Literature, Historical studies.

At the bottom of the heap we have the creative, the arts, the music, the dance. Things that are only optional, and often over populated, underfunded and discouraged.

And what is the top profession considered to be of a better class? The professor.

School or Academic study is a circular creation perpetuating itself. It is a system that was developed in the industrial revolution in order to create functional cogs in the new clockwork society and hasn't changed since.

Look at how we even treat students now. A student who can't do well in school is considered to have something wrong with them. A Prime example of this is Gillian Lynne.

You may not know her name but you know her works as she is the choreographer behind "Cats" and "Phantom of the Opera" and is a millionaire.

Gillian is lucky that she was born when she was. Had she been born 10 years ago she would never be able to become a dancer like she is.

Why?

Gillian was bad at school. She fidgeted and wouldn't sit still or pay attention, her work was often incomplete and her teacher complained about her to the point that she was taken to a doctor.

In this day and age the Doctor would have said she had ADHD and given her drugs and told her to calm down and focus.

Her doctor however was from a time before ADHD existed. He saw her fidget and move and dance and he said "She's not sick, she's a dancer" and was placed into a school for dance.

Even dance for youths has far too often been cut down and enforced. Children who have no interest in it are forced into it by parents who once dreamed for themselves but because of their education have been forced away from their dreams, now placing a burden upon a child whom may not have that talent.

I remember a long time ago on a different journal talking about how I think everyone is a genius. However our entire life is geared towards becoming geniuses in the same thing. Thus killing off where our true talent lay. The whole reason we have those child prodigies is because of a luck of the draw, that the one thing that perfectly clicks with the child in the time that they're perfectly open to do it is placed before them allowing them to excel. The reason we don't see it more often is because we often leave the education of children up to institutions who are not looking for what children are good at, but trying to throw them out at the end in the exact same workable style.

But this is almost a waste. We don't know what the world will be like in 5 years yet alone in the 17 years it's going to take these kids to fully graduate from college. And considering that now-a-days already a B of A means nothing and you need a PhD just to work at McDonalds they'll be graduating even further into debt and 22-25 years down the road if not even 30 or 35 depending on what their doctorate will be in.

We've overeducated our population and undervalued their ability to create. We have an over-skilled working class that is all skilled in the same thing and killed off those innovators that may have been the next creator of the spinning jenny or sliced bread.

After all, the greatest of creators are the ones working in a field they have no education in, since they're the ones pioneering the entire field.

Why do we do the things we do?

I was listening to a talk by Tony Robbins who is generally considered a motivational speaker however he says he's not. And he was asking everyone the question to really sit and think about what they're doing in life, what they seriously want in life and what motivates them for it right now.

He was talking also about how another person gave a speech about how intrinsically everything we do is self serving, however he makes the claim that often when emotions get involved we do many things that are self effecting or self harmful, so to what self to they serve if it is not directly for the benefit of themselves.

It kind of made me want to give a bit of a think over where I am in life and what I want to eventually do with my life. But the thing is my motivation is whatever makes me happy right now with some vague future goals.

I know that a few months ago teaching made me happy. I know right now that money makes me happy, I know that Japan made me happy, so I plan on going back to Japan to teach in order to in a future time be happy.

Am I willing to chain myself to either Japan or Teaching forever? To make them my final destination goals? Of course not. That's why my Mom demanding I get a teaching degree RIGHT NOW and to invest in property RIGHT NOW and to commit myself to someplace to live RIGHT NOW drives me nuts. I may be in Japan for the next 20 years being happy, but what terrifies me is the feeling of stagnation that I'll be chained down there forever.

It's things like this that make me want to get a group house, invest in a property with some friends just so that a little section of their house will forever be considered mine, so if I'm in their neck of the woods I can live there and they can't treat me like a guest since the house is mine as well.

But I want to invest in multiple group houses because even then I don't want to be chained down to half owning one house.

Everything motivates me. Because I want to do everything, be everything live everything. I think that's one of the reasons I take movies and books so seriously and play video games as well but at the same time am able to walk away from them. I don't play to escape my life, I play to experience a life that I could never have (I can never be a magical Troll shaman or an Elf mage) but once I've experienced it then I can put it down and jump to the next experience. Hence one of the reasons I can't play multiple games that are similar in nature.

I want to be a chef and cook for everyone, I want to be an artist and paint what I see in my head, I want to be a movie director and writer so I can make the movies that I think up and I want to act in them so I can portray my characters just as I know them to be and so for a brief moment, I can be something else somewhere else. I want to be a porn star and have all kinds of sex, I want to be a travel guide and show people all the cool places I've been to, I want to teach to explore to do everything.

I even want to die, to finally see the afterlife and experience the last great adventure, but the only thing that often keeps me from killing myself just to experience it is the fact that I'm just not DONE here yet.

So, what motivates you?

Rethinking Development.

As the 40th anniversary of the moon landing as come and passed it kind of makes me look at how we are treating our own development, specifically in regards to the G8 summit and the lack of agreement on global warming and world poverty.

What does the Moon Landing have to do with all this?

Well look at the technology we have now-a-days. The amount of technology that I have in my digital camera is enough to have boggled scientists 40 years ago. They went to the Moon flying the equivalent of an Atari wrapped in tinfoil with a fire cracker on its ass and yet they set a goal to get there and goddamn it they did.

A goal, to get to the moon for christ sake. For no other reason than "IT'S THERE" and "I THINK WE CAN DO IT!" (*Please read the all caps in a loud dopey voice*)

And yet 40 years later we're faced with what could be a serious crisis, technology that is practically magical in it's intricacy, simple solutions falling out our assholes*(1) and yet no one has the balls to say "Fuck Y'all, I'm going to the moon with this bitch."

What even more sad is that it seems to be those smaller countries that we in North America scoff at that are showing the innovation we had 40 years ago.

In Bogota Columbia, that's right Columbia, where we hear about drug cartels from all the time. As early as 1993 had one of the most violent crime rates in the world. by 2007 it dropped 60%.

One Erique Benellosa (I know I'm killing the spelling) noticed that few people owned cars, and yet a large portion of the cities finances went into servicing them and completely ignoring public transportation altogether. He forced his administration to narrow the roads from 5 lanes to 3 and created from scratch pedestrian walkways, bike-lanes and one of the best bus transit systems in the world. All this on the city budget of a third world country.

Simply by allowing everyone the ability to move people could leave an area instead of getting sucked into gang violence, people could get out, look for jobs, get to their jobs, make money and then be able to travel somewhere to use that money.

Why can't our own leaders do these things? Because these things take guts, balls and the willingness to fail. He was almost impeached for his beliefs on sustainable development and pushing them forward.

We have no excuse, people we feel are less shame us daily on issues we should be the forerunners for and our own history mocks our inaction.

So Ireland has passed an anti-blasphemy law.

That's right Anti-Blasphemy That would be a law that says you can't say anything bad about religious figures.
Anything.

No satire, technically even politely saying "Oh I don't believe in *Blank*" could be, in the eyes of something really religious as blasphemy and could tag you with a 25,000 euro fine. (That's 39,311.79 CND$)

On one hand I think this is a dumb law to have and a ridiculous fine to have on it. Especially considering a speeding ticket is only 80 euros and DRUG POSSESSION with the INTENT TO SELL is a fine of only 1,270 euro and possibly 1 year in prison (and or, and this is for hard drugs.)

That's right, to the Irish it is better for you to sell crack to their kids, then to say you think the concept of God is akin to that of the tooth fairy.

I was recently watching this show on dog breeding a while ago. I thought it was sick, but then my roommate brought it up with me again mentioning how she saw a purebred german shepherd and felt bad for the dog since walking must be so painful for it.

I felt it was kind of sad too. People complain about how we breed feeding animals to be unnatural but we're breeding them for unnatural functionality. To us, chicken, cows and pigs are only good for food. So we breed them to be the best food or biggest food we can. It's not nice but it's what we do.
But I think it's a shame that we're breeding something like domestic pets for a lack of functionality. We're breeding them to be absolutely useless accessories.

Beagles are being breed to be too short with too thick of skin to follow their original hunting calling. German Shepherds legs are being made sloped so they can barely walk, pugs faces have been bread flat so they can barely breath anymore.

Not only are these mutations considered okay, they're considered, among breeders, to be better or actually more natural than their originals.

And yet these animals are living accessories, completely useless for anything outside of the showroom, hardly able to function in regular living let alone function to any other kind of purpose that you'd naturally think they'd hold.

So I'm watching "Holmes on Homes" and man that show is pissing me off.

Not the construction guy. I like him.
Not the show content. It's good.

It's the total lack of accountability of construction companies that's pissing me off.

You go out, and you buy something, you expect it to be safe and functional. If it's not safe then you expect that the person who made it or the company that sold it should be accountable for it. Hell even if it was your own retarded negligence that put you in an unsafe situation with it, if there's no warning against it, you STILL want them to be accountable. And yet, in the very buildings we live in, there is absolutely ZERO accountability to not only the construction companies that build them, but to the privet and public inspection companies that are responsible for making sure the construction companies have done their job.

Someone can literally wire a bomb into your house by connecting gas, water and electric all onto one section and not be responsible at all when you blow up your house because of it. It is all the home owners responsibility to make sure the home builders are doing their job up to safety standards. Do you think the home owner would be hiring builders if they could just DO IT THEMSELVES? What the Hell!?!

It kind of freeks me out to know that in any building that I live in the company could have cut corners all over the place, and done out right illegal and dangerous things within the house and doesn't have to worry about any kind of repercussion against them other than maybe, MAYBE not getting paid if they do such a noticeably slipshod job that the amateur who doesn't know anything can smell something fishy.

Gotta say, gives a whole new meaning to "If you want something done right..."

Of Gomi, Gaijin and Garbage.

I'm taking a class in East Asian Studies and one of our first readings is called "Of Gomi and Gaijin"

Basically it is describing how Gaijin (or Foreigners in Japan) will pick through Japanese peoples Gomi (or trash) for useable items like old TV's or VCR's.

Now since we are studying Orientalism which is basically a study of the stereotypes of everything "not western" and the study of those who study those stereotypes, I can understand why this essay was chosen. It is strangely stereotypical on both sides of the fence in that the writer (Alex Kerr) is portraying Gaijin in Japan as people too poor or actually better portrayed as too cheap to afford new stuff so that they will trash pick in order to obtain things.

He portrays the regular Japanese person as seeing this practice of not only trash picking as unsavory, but the whole concept of "second hand items" as just as unsavory, as apparently a Japanese person explained to him that the concept of shifting his unwanted but usable TV on someone else as a faux pas in etiquette.

Now I may be just speaking as a Canadian, or possibly I am in the minority on this but...

IT IS IMPROPER TO OFFER SOMEONE OF EQUAL STANDING AS YOU A CAST OFF!

The only people you give your used stuff to when you get a new one is people you know who can't afford to get one themselves, and even then it's only for certain items and in delicate situations. Starving collage students, Family members, really close friends whom have just moved or are down on their cash.

You wouldn't show up to your office as a C.E.O or even the secretary and offer your used items to a co-worker that you were not very VERY close friends with. It's RUDE.

I wonder where this writer is from that GARBAGE PICKING is acceptable. Sure sometimes I want to do a little Gomi Picking myself when I see a pile of something cool that someone has thrown away, and I am guilty of nicking a Japanese children's video tape from the Gomi Pile one day (but it was very educational and I threw it out right after watching it because it is, still, garbage.)
But that is something that is just not DONE, at least not where I live. (Amongst the upper middle class if you want to be specific, but even when my family was directly middle class or even lower middle class as we were living with my Grandparents for a year while my Dad got back on his feet it would have still been rude, gross and improper to go dumpster diving)

I hope this guy hasn't written somewhere that Japanese people don't have Garage Sales because on one hand, they don't because they don't have Garages and he is correct in that they don't have the space to be hoarding their stuff which doesn't allow them to usually accumulate enough stuff to warrant a Garage Sale.
However there are Japanese flea markets. There is the one that happens on the first Saturday of every month (or last Saturday? Can't remember) around Harajuku. There are the ones that happen every week in the Summer in Ueno Park in the evening. And there is a big three day flea market extravaganza at the BIG site in Kaiheim Makuhari in Chiba-ken every year (I think that one might happen twice a year)

The last part of the essay went on to put Japanese people in this weird disorganized negative light that showed them as all being messy and cluttered and unorganized when it came to their households.

Who does this man visit and that's quite a broad generalization.

I know a lot of people that are disorganized to a state that makes my skin crawl. Sometimes I get that way as well (at least in my personal space, it is a very complicated pile of chaos.) My mother was a cleaner, everything has a place and it would always be put back in that place. (sometimes you didn't know where that place was, but you sure bet it wasn't just laying out) My grandparents (her parents) are the same, by Grandparents on my fathers side are not like that, they have stacks of things laying out, food on the counter just sitting there, piles of stuff and extra things all over the place, Neither are any of my Aunts and Uncles on either side of my family clean to the point of obsession like my family or Mothers Parents.

I get 50/50 with my friends. Some of my friends are so disorganized I have to clean their houses for them when I visit simply because I can't stand it, some are about on par with me. Even I get disorganized sometimes. I won't throw a house party if my house isn't fit and tidy, but if you drop in on me you're not going to see that much of a change other than piles of papers in stacks on the floor which are various stages of various projects.

I've been to a Japanese house that made me want to clean it because it was so cluttered with stuff. But I've been to other houses that were free of junk and clutter and as clean as my mothers house.

Even at work when I was working at the high school. A-sensei and K-sensei's desks were overflowing with work and projects, but S-sensei and T-sensei's desk was clear and empty. The sensei with the desk next to me kept hers clear as well as the two ladies with desks across from us. Yet the two desks behind me were so overflowing with stuff that occasionally one teacher would use my desk as an extra holder for his items.

I think it's an almost racist point to say that culturally Japanese people can't understand the concept of organization. At the least any more than anyone else.

Once again sorry I haven't been updating much.

My life has been a bit busy but in kind of a geeky way. I'm planning on going on a whole bunch of trips and getting some classes in a few things as well. So I've been pretty busy with that, however I also need to make more money since while originally I was planning on just blowing all my savings and not working this entire time my parents have convinced me that's a bad thing so now I've gotten a job. However I also want to have a lot of free time to play World of Warcraft so essentially, that's what I've been doing.

Jobwise I got a job at Disney which... While I like disney some of the things they require of their workers as an artist, writer and aspireing actress I feel really sketchy about.

As an employee at their Disney store anything I create while working there belongs to them. Not just while I'm IN the store, no no, anything I draw, think up, write down or plot while in their employ at all belongs to them. My image, voice, and likeness of me can be taken and used by them without notice for any purpose.

Needless to say I highlighted these parts of my contract and crossed them out before I signed and brought it up with my boss who said "To be on the safe side, if you get hired by someone else for anything artistic, quit here and wait a week or two" but I also informed them I was signing my contract under duress since I had worked a 4 hour shift before the contract was signed.

I hate things like that. Movie Gallery has that in their hiring contract too. That you cannot have anything to do with the movie buisness that is in competition to them. EVER.

That means that 10 years from now if I open up a "Movie Bucket" store and it becomes big, they could locate my old contract and force me to close down my franchise because of that. (Now fortunately I only worked for Movie Gallery when they bought VHQ and I refused to sign the Movie Gallery contract. Since I was hired for VHQ already they couldn't fire me under the stipulation of the buyout so I got away with it.)

I realize that these contracts really are not as binding as they seem. After all I am just a cashier (as much as they call me a cast member I do not act while I am there, I am not being paid for a performance, there is no script, no play and the store is not a stage, I man the till.) Chances are that if I come up with the Next Big Thing while under their employ even a crappy lawyer could stop them from taking stuff I thought up and making it their own. Copyrights don't work that way where you can sign them off before you even make them up when your job isn't to be making them up in the first place.

But they still make me nervouse because in the end. They COULD.

Anyway, I also have a cold so I'll probably go to bed soon.

There is a mouse in my house and I want to catch him and keep him forever and call him George, sadly since he came uninvited to my house and tried to eat my leftover mac and cheese, WITHOUT EVEN ASKING! I retaliated by chasing him under the refridgerator and letting him go all night with no dinner before I let him return to his mousehole.

Then I promply taped the hole shut and will be calling the landlord to call the exterminator to deal with the little rodent.

I tried to find some humane mousetraps but those are harder to locate than you'd think.

I guess I haven't posted in a while, and I think the reason why is that the thing I want to bitch about the most, is something I've already bitched about, and I've promised myself not to repeat bitch.

But just for the record, never tell me that I'll change my mind when it comes to having children. I've had the adamant hatred of the concept of a living thing coming out my cooter since I was 7 years old. Long before most of you even realized THAT'S where babies come from I already decided that I was never having one. So don't EVER fucking tell me "Oh one day"

Sure, one day maybe I'll have the desire to shove a pineapple up my ass, hell one day I might even decide to leap head first off of a tall building, but I will not ONE DAY suddenly think breeding is ever a universally good idea. (Or if I do it will be for ONE DAY and ONE DAY only, leaving the other 364 days to baby hating.)

The main reason why I really hate it when people keep telling me that is because I am a respectful kind of person, except for on this blog (which then you came to me, not the other way around) I'll pretty much keep my opinion to myself. So when you bitch about your swollen ankles or inability to sleep due to your oversized belly or your aching back I won't casually mention that an abortion only costs $500. I'm not about to point out how you ruined your life with your instinct to pro-create so please stop mentioning how my life is somehow unfulfilled because of my desire to NOT.

The reason for all of this is because my roommate's sister is pregnant and my roommate is the nanny for her first child who is currently 3. She's the lady that doesn't believe in punishments and barely if ever even gives time outs, opting to talk out her feelings with her child that cognitively doesn't have the ability to feel empathy towards her feelings anyway.

She is stressed because her husband and her agreed that they would have a baby last year, however before they conceived he changed his mind and decided to get a vasectomy. Well she wasn't having that, so secretly she went of her pill and got "surprise" pregnant.

Now he's all stressed out because of the upcoming baby, but he already has two 18 year old (and older) daughters from his first marriage (so he's no spring chicken) with retirement coming in the horizon he's still going to have kids in the house and grandkids on the way soon enough (Grandkids that will be growing up alongside his own children)
I don't really blame him for wanting to be a little self centered and desiring a few years of his life alone in his house with his wife without the kids before he dies.

Now he's also getting stressed from his side of the family who just in general hate his wife so that's not helping matters any. And yet she's expecting me to sympathize with her?

Yea, no. You tricked your husband into having a child that he was on the fence toward having, he can't even deal with his current son for longer than an hour without throwing a gasket, he can't deal with his two older daughters who are total bitches, and he's an alcoholic that gets violent when he gets mad. Already you married a man who should not be breeding.

Frankly if you want kids, FINE, have them, but don't think I'm going to pat you on the rear and say "Poor thing" because you're trying to hold together a marriage that I think is dangerous and destructive. And don't you then turn to me and say "One day you'll meet the right guy and want to poke holes in his condom too."

But I guess she is right on one aspect.

Sometimes I do want to have a child. Just so I can prove that I'm better at doing it than all of these dingbats are and then I can reasonably and with experience tell people that children and childbirth are a living hell and to never EVER do it themselves.

I'm quite surprised that This even made it to a court hearing and that everyone else involved just didn't go "Dude are you shitting me?" right in front of Rainey's daughter.

A "Little piece of America" was not killed but upheld today in that people, no matter how much they don't like the terminology you use, cannot stop you from using a word they perceive as "naughty"

Now if any of you are reading my other blog http://somewhereovertheramenbowl.blogspot.com you'll know that I have a terrible time talking to men. I'm a bit mean, I don't flirt well and guys tend to have no idea if I like them or am about 2 seconds away from ripping their eyes out and eating them.

Frankly most of my friends suffer from that strange conundrum of my odd attitude.

KH from Hooters Girl posted a link from PLFM about creepy guys who hit on wait-staff.

It made me look back into my waitressing years to see if I ever experienced "the creepy asshole" however since I'm as thick as a board when it comes to people hitting on me I probably missed most of them.

But it did remind me of a co-worker who found me on facebook.
(One of the many reasons I really hate facebook)

I don't remember our time working together or how I treated him. I tend to be pretty pervy sometimes but I have lines that I don't cross and dating co-workers is one of them. A few months ago he finds me on facebook and out of the blue asks me what colour my nipples are.
Then goes on to describe how he's thinking about me and wacking off.
I sent him a scathing e-mail informing him that it has been 5 years since I last saw him, I barely remember him but I sure as hell don't remember any of our conversations leaning into such a manner that this would be considered appropriate.

Fortunately he did apologies and I've since put him on my ignore list.

Guys are weird.

What brought on this insufferable rant is the fact that today is my birthday (yay!) I thought to celebrate my birthday I'd buy myself a cake, come home and eat some cereal, take a nap, watch a movie eat said cake and then go to bed early because I had a test today and I have school tomorrow, I'll party on the weekend or something.
Nope.

My roommates sister who is pregnant and has a 3 yr old sprog wants to take me out for dinner.

Fuck me and my polite ways.

First, this means we have to go to a family friendly place, I'm feeling kind of ill because I'm bleeding out my cooter as well today, so walking around holding onto the sticky hand of a three year old that screams for everything is already putting me on edge.

But my roommates sister is a Hippy Mom, so she's trying to explain feelings and why screaming and hitting mommy is bad to a 3 year old. As opposed to giving him a good crack across the backside to shut him up/ give demonstration as to why hitting is bad.

So I'm bored out of my skull, not very hungry, and trying not to hit her child for her, and embarrassed to be "That table with the goddamn kid"
Gotta say I'm glad to be home. Plus the ice cream made me gassy in like less than a minute.

Ahh Hippy Moms.

I really hate all that new age hippy parenting crap. Time outs, positive enforcements, reasoning with something that cognitively HAS NO REASONING SKILLS.

Your child is not a cave man. Your child is more like a dog.

Do you let your 5 month old dog still poop in your house?
Then why do you let your child when it's 3 years old?

Do you let your dog bite?
Then why do you let your child hit?

Do you let your Dog bark or howl?
Then why do you let your child scream and yell?

The latest thing I've been hearing from hippy moms is to pretend you're the ambassador of the modern world and your child is a cave man, so when talking to your child you have to talk to them using "their language" or toddler talk, this will allow them to communicate better and feel more empowered and thus, less likely to throw fits over everything.

I've got a better one. How about you stop spoiling your kid, letting them get away with everything they want, stop rewarding them for bad behaviour and bribing them for decent behaviour and realize that they ARE like cave men, in the fact that they cannot function into todays society and they have the cognitive skill of a monkey and so you can't treat them like thinking adults but treat them like the monkey they are. With the occasional banana and rolled up newspaper if necessary.

Look if you don't want to spank your kids that's fine and you can get away with not doing it I'm sure. But it's a hard way and you have to be willing to train those kids like you train a household pet, with firmness, determination and authority.
Your kids screams? In his room where he can wail his head off.
He touches something he's not supposed to? In a cart where he can't touch it.
He misbehaves or doesn't want to do something? To damn bad for him, you're the adult, he's the kid, he doesn't like it? TOUGH.

You're not his friend, you're his zookeeper until he can learn to keep himself under control.

I don't have a good relationship with my parents. My Dad is a bully and my Mom is a zen master at not caring, but she wasn't always that way and she isn't always that way but she knows that everyones a bit of an asshole so there's not much you can do about it other than deal with them directly.

This is why I keep putting such a weight on the Parental influence in teens that are suffering from any form of depression or suicidal thoughts. If these kids were raised so they could come to you and tell you anything, you don't have to be their friend, but at least someone they can trust, it would be such a weight off of them. Even if parents just do the hippy new age prying thing, just pop the question, you only have to do it once and trust me it will stick.

"Do you ever think about killing yourself? You can always come to me if you need help with anything, I want you to remember I love you."

Say it once, say it every day, every week, every year. You may just save your child from themselves.

This is the final topic I'm covering here with Bullying and Suicide.

Cyberbullying. Now in the case that I mentioned in the last post they were tossing around the term "cyberbullying" which is essentially upgrading the bullying to being online as well as offline. I think that this, is complete horse shit.

One of the main things about online knowledge, that they have been touting since *I* first had access to the internet was "DON'T GIVE YOUR REAL INFORMATION ONLINE"

Now with things like MySpace and Facebook, which are completely spitting on that common sense rule kids that you don't like, have access to information about you, that you probably didn't want them to have.
Look, the internet may seem safe since you're in your house and in your room, but you don't jerkoff in front of an open window, and you don't put fodder for the ignorant masses online unless you KNOW it won't be found.
Take me for example. NONE of my information is online. Not one drop of it. Google my Real name with my Real Address and any of the schools I once went to, and you'll find nothing. Everything I do, every online tidbit about me is all attached to my screen name (ty_ping) Google that? And it's all me baby.

Now ignoring the fact that if you put your heart onto the internet then your dumb if you think it's not going to get chewed up and shat on. If you're being bullied in real life, what on ear lead you to think that everyone in cyberspace under the mask of anonymity is full of hugs and kittens for you?
There's also this crazy thing on every type of online communication device, it's called the "Ignore" button. I can only dream we'll one day have them in real life. Sometimes called the "block" button. You can select anyone being an asshole to you and just "Ignore them" Not pretend they're not there in real life, but literally make them and all their messages go away.

Or you can delight in after ignoring them, the mocking that they are so sad they have to make a second account just to bother you again. Just so you can grace the same button one more time.

Parents have a key here too. If your kid has such unrestricted internet access and such a poor relationship with you that when their inbox is filled with people mocking them from school they won't say anything, then clearly you're the weakest link in their stability.

((Plus, how on earth are these kids at your school getting your e-mail address anyway? Unless, maybe... You actually have friends and this is just a phase because you did something tease worthy and are getting way too uptight about it.))

I guess my biggest thing is that many people get bullied, horribly bullied and tortured to extents that would make your head spin and are able to get out of school fine, and lots of kids even are the bullies or popular and still kill themselves. If you're getting so upset about something someone says to you online, then it doesn't matter how anyone treats you, you're already unbalanced enough that those guys could not even be there and chances are you'd still make that plunge.

Doesn't make their choices right, but it sure as hell makes yours wrong.

Recently, and this also pertains to that Sexting post I did a girl killed herself at the age of 18 because the nude photo's she "sexted" to her boyfriend were used against her to bully her when she broke up with him. Now since she was 18 unlike other sexting charges he can't be charged with child pornography since he was 17 and she was legal. But her parents are trying to get him on bullying charges, and suing the school for not stopping the photos from being spread.

Keep in mind, I was also bullied in school. The thing is that people are mean. Friends say mean things to friend and one of those things you have to realize about people who commit suicide is sometimes it doesn't take someone being teased to tip them over. It can be something as simple as waking up an hour earlier than you'd like on a bad day that will put someone into a danger zone.
This is dealing more with depression than anything, but it is an integral problem of depression in general in that it is very hard to detect unless someone is willing to seek help for it.

I think bullying is a horrible thing, that it's wrong and can leave some very deep wounds that are not easily healed. However ultimately the choice to take your own life is your own. You can fight back, you can get them instead, you can tell your parents, refuse to go to school, get your GED instead or simply rat them out every single time they do it. Now-a-days with schools "no tolerance" policy or do as other students have done and killed them. (I'm not saying all these options are better, but that they exist)

I also think that parents play an active role in this too. If I had someone, frankly anyone to talk to while I was going through my tough times I would have found that easier to handle. So where was her mother or father when she was getting into boys? Where were they when she was sending nudie pictures? Where were they when the bullying started? When she was being texted copies of her photo from classmates followed by "Slut" and "Whore"?

This was a girl who had a boyfriend, and who was self confident enough to send him nude photo's and then later break up with HIM. She wasn't one of the students who was constantly bullied, who never had any friends at all, who locked herself in her room and cut herself to make herself feel better, she was one of the popular ones who faced one highly embarrassing setback and couldn't handle it. Protecting your children from every form of social interaction other than the positive ones are simply going to result in shallow adults who can't handle the real world where being disliked could ruin their career, you think getting pushed into a locker is bad? Imagine not being able to find a job because you don't know how to deal with self absorbed assholes on a daily basis.

I guess I have the wisdom of being there and escaping it, of being far enough in time from highschool that the pain doesn't bite as deeply.

I still blame the bullies for being bullies, but it doesn't make them anymore than assholes.

I think that when a kid rats out a bully there should be assault charges tho, and people should take cases of it seriously, but parents also have to stop treating their schools like daycare and realize that making sure their kids aren't dicks are not the teachers responsibility but the parents. Your kids weak? Maybe you should have had a better relationship with them. Your kids a bully? Maybe you shouldn't have been such a jerkwad yourself.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means...

I'm mildly frustrated over this but just because it took up a few hours of my life and the other party spent the last 10 minutes of this argument just calling me names and is STILL accusing me of being the stupid side of the argument because unlike her, I know what the words "Simple" and "Easy" mean. And while I conceded to her as, in the end, being correct. I still don't think "Breathing" really counts as an exercise.

Basically the argument went like this:

her: "There are other, simpler, things to do" (her EXACT words)

me "Yea... I know that. And I don't disagree with you, but I still don't think it's easier than EATING."

*long winded rant about psychological stigmatisms against exercise but how in the LONG RUN it's simpler, easier and more effective. She's also calling me names.*

me "Yea... I know, but I still don't think it's EASIER than EATING. But let's agree to disagree then"

It's interesting. I'm watching the Anatomy of Sex and Love and all that (I missed most of the Love episode so now I'm just watching sex) but humans attachment and emotional connectors are kinda interesting in how they connect to our evolutionary process.

Men used to be able to tell when a woman was looking for a mate much as primates do today, by a woman's engorged butt and genitalia. However then we did something no other mammal has mastered yet.

We stood up.

This structurally changed not just our bones and how we faced the world. (The ability to use weapons, carry things, look for danger) but also our genitalia.

A few months (?) back KH at hooters girl mentioned that some guy went into a hooters and demanded to become a hooters girl. Saying that it was sexual discrimination to not allow him to become a waitress there.

Now since hooters girls are not hired as waitresses but instead as entertainers they are then put up to different standards than waitresses, and one of these standards is that the management can select people based on both looks and gender (Much like a producer can select his cast based on looks and gender because these people are entertainers as well)

However, KH I believe also mentioned (or Fark.com did, I can't remember) that this isn't the first time this suit was flung at hooters. I'm suddenly wondering if this wouldn't have simply been a better solution.

Say yes. Get them to fill out the form, and then say "Sorry we're not hiring" or "You're not what we're looking for" or even give them the job, but tell them that the hooters girl uniform, is THE uniform.

I'm watching the news and I read this in the paper today and apparently in Canada, specifically Alberta, they're passing a "human rights" law that allows parents to know what their children's curriculum at school is and then opt to pull their kid from the class at any point something "Controversial" is being taught. A part of this law apparently is that the kids even get a choice at what they want to learn or not.

Homosexuality covered in sex ed class? Hell CONDOMS or AIDS myths covered that goes against your religion/bigoted views? PULL THE KID
Evolution taught? Anything that you think disproves God? The scientific theory? NO NEED FOR MY BUTTERFLY!
You baby bad at math and doesn't want to be there anymore? HA HA can't affect their ability to pass the class even if they are no longer present.

Seriously people? Seriously? This is a free ticket to openly condoning bigotry in all forms. It has been now decided that you can never work with or volunteer for anything involving children. I saw a lot of comments in various discussions about the issue as to why more of them didn't leave. I think VA at http://www.violentacres.com/ has covered the deal with abused children in being that our whole life, our whole culture is based around the familial unit as being strong, important, loving and more binding than anything else. For you to be born into a family of abuse you don't understand anything else. You can conceive of leaving, of fighting back. There is nothing else, these are the people who love and care for you. As for poor Nate's mother, she most likely came from a household where her father held power over her and her mother as well. It's only within the last 20 years that cases of spousal and child abuse are coming more to the forefront. It wasn't until wives or children were put in the ground that people stopped thinking of these things as "Family Issues" and that they, the police force or the government should get involved.

Beyond the issue of abuse, with this mentality spreading (Or at least becoming seen and known and these people not being ashamed of being hated if even relishing in it) it makes me wonder what can be done about it.

What can we do, to maybe help those who are still stuck within this church, to show the children within that there is more out here then terror and hate, that being a fag ain't so bad.

I think we should have a big old love in.

Every month, or every year or every week or every day. Send letters or e-mails or flowers, stop by and hold signs. Maybe even on valentines day or Christmas or something, everyone just gets together on the Phelps front lawn and sings "Jesus Loves me" and forgive them. Tell them their all crazy motherfuckers but we love them anyway and respect their frothy psychotic opinions as wrong as they are.

Other than a list of everyone you've ever know it kind of bothers me that whatever information I put up there will stay there for internet eternaty even if I ask them to take it down they never will, all it takes is one click and boof, back it is, with all the friend requests and annoyances that were there before.

I wish I never signed up frankly.

But I'm trimming my friends list to people I was acctually friends with as opposed to everyone I'd ever met that can remember my name.

There was a post a while back on http://thehootersgirl.blogspot.com/ where she was mentioning "people of distinction*" whom would spend large amounts of money on food and large amounts of time bothering her, while failing to properly tip her.

A comment on her particular post stated that because these people of distinction may have been low on cash that day, they failed to uphold their half of common decency.

Frankly, while response comments are correct (If you don't have enough money to tip or enough curtsy to be human then don't go to a restaurant) it is an event that happens. People do fail to account in taxes when eating out (I myself after living in Japan for so long get shocked and appalled by sales tax here because they sneak it up on you.) They may fail to not how much money they do have, maybe they honestly thought someone else at the table had some cash.

In any case, I have only not left a tip twice in my life. (Not counting the time in Japan as they keep chasing me down with my change.)
Once for exceptionally belligerent service (not just bad but out of her way rude.)

And once because, much like these people I did not have enough cash to cover my services. I was hungry, the food establishment was there, I didn't have much money.

HOWEVER.

I was polite, I said please and thank you, I forewarned them I didn't have much money, I didn't ask them for anything extra beyond what they offered, I thanked them after the meal for their service, and I gave them a sucker. (lollypop I believe you Americans call it.)
If you know that you can't tip, don't be the kind of asshole that SHOULD tip. If you're clean, polite, nice and don't ask for much then no one cares if you don't leave a tip. But if you're dirty, a pain in the ass and treat your waitress as a servant and not a human being then yes, you do have to pay for them not kicking you out. They might be paid an hourly wage, but it's not a high enough one to have to deal with demanding assholes.

That's what tipping really is.
